1. Introduction
Thank you for choosing the Smad 50L 12V 220V Absorption Refrigerator. This appliance is designed to provide reliable and silent cooling for a variety of environments, including caravans, motorhomes, trucks, vans, bedrooms, offices, hotels, dormitories, and studios. Its absorption cooling system ensures quiet operation with minimal energy consumption.
This manual provides essential information for the safe and efficient use of your refrigerator. Please read it thoroughly before installation and operation, and retain it for future reference.
1.1 Safety Information
- Ensure the refrigerator is placed on a stable, level surface to prevent tipping and ensure proper operation of the absorption system.
- Do not block ventilation openings. Adequate airflow is crucial for efficient cooling.
- Avoid placing the refrigerator in direct sunlight or near heat sources.
- Connect to appropriate power sources (12V DC or 220V AC) as specified. Do not use other voltages.
- Keep flammable materials and liquids away from the appliance.
- Do not store explosive substances such as aerosol cans with a flammable propellant in this appliance.
- Unplug the refrigerator before cleaning or performing any maintenance.
2. Setup and Installation
2.1 Unpacking
Carefully remove all packaging materials. Inspect the refrigerator for any damage that may have occurred during transit. If damage is found, contact your retailer immediately.
2.2 Placement
For optimal performance, place the refrigerator in a location with good air circulation. Ensure there is sufficient space around the unit for heat dissipation. The refrigerator must be placed on a firm, level surface. Uneven surfaces can affect the efficiency of the absorption cooling system.

2.3 Power Connection
This refrigerator supports dual power input: 12V DC and 220V AC. Ensure the correct power cable is used for the intended power source.
- 12V DC Connection: Use the provided 12V DC cable to connect the refrigerator to a compatible 12V power outlet in your vehicle (caravan, motorhome, truck, etc.).
- 220V AC Connection: Use the provided 220V AC power cord to connect the refrigerator to a standard household power outlet.
Do not connect both 12V DC and 220V AC simultaneously. The refrigerator will automatically prioritize the AC power if both are connected, but it is recommended to use only one at a time.

2.4 Initial Use
After placing the refrigerator in its desired location, allow it to stand upright for at least 2-4 hours before plugging it in. This allows the cooling fluid to settle. Once plugged in, allow the refrigerator to operate for several hours (e.g., 4-6 hours) to reach its stable operating temperature before loading it with food or beverages.
3. Operating Instructions
3.1 Temperature Control
The refrigerator features an adjustable thermostat to set the desired cooling temperature. The temperature range is approximately 0°C to 10°C. Turn the thermostat dial to a higher number for colder temperatures and a lower number for warmer temperatures. The 'OFF' position will turn off the cooling function.

3.3 Reversible Door
The refrigerator door is designed to be reversible, allowing it to open from either the left or the right side. This feature provides flexibility in placement and optimizes space. Refer to the detailed instructions in the separate installation guide for reversing the door, if needed.

4. Maintenance
4.1 Cleaning
Regular cleaning helps maintain the hygiene and efficiency of your refrigerator.
- Interior: Unplug the refrigerator. Remove all food items and shelves. Wash the interior surfaces with a solution of mild detergent and warm water. Rinse with a clean, damp cloth and dry thoroughly.
- Exterior: Wipe the exterior surfaces with a soft, damp cloth. For stubborn stains, use a mild, non-abrasive cleaner.
- Do not use abrasive cleaners, harsh chemicals, or sharp objects for cleaning, as these can damage the surfaces.
4.2 Defrosting
This refrigerator features a manual defrost system. Frost buildup on the cooling plate is normal. When the frost layer becomes approximately 5mm thick, it is time to defrost the unit.
- Unplug the refrigerator from the power supply.
- Remove all food items and place them in a cooler.
- Leave the refrigerator door open to allow the frost to melt naturally. Place a towel or shallow pan at the bottom to collect melted water.
- Once defrosted, clean and dry the interior thoroughly before plugging it back in and reloading food.
4.3 Long-Term Storage
If the refrigerator will not be used for an extended period:
- Unplug the unit and defrost it completely.
- Clean and dry the interior and exterior surfaces.
- Leave the door slightly ajar to prevent odors and mold growth.
- Store in a dry, well-ventilated area.
