1. Introduction

This manual provides detailed instructions for the safe and effective use of your Obuby Kids Walkie Talkies, Model WT1-3. Please read this manual thoroughly before operating the device and retain it for future reference. These walkie talkies are designed for communication over short distances, featuring 22 channels, a backlit LCD, and a built-in flashlight.

2. Safety Information

  • Battery Safety: Use only specified AAA batteries. Do not mix old and new batteries, or different types of batteries. Remove batteries if the device will not be used for an extended period. Dispose of batteries properly.
  • Choking Hazard: This product contains small parts and is not suitable for children under 3 years old.
  • Water Exposure: The device is not water-resistant. Avoid exposure to water or high humidity.
  • Hearing Protection: Do not place the speaker directly against the ear when the volume is set high to prevent hearing damage.
  • Interference: Keep the walkie talkies away from medical devices or other electronic equipment that may be sensitive to radio frequency interference.

5. Setup

5.1 Battery Installation

Each walkie talkie requires 4 AAA batteries (not included). Follow these steps to install batteries:

  1. Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the unit.
  2. Press down on the clip and slide the cover downwards to open.
  3. Insert 4 AAA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+ and -) as indicated inside the compartment.
  4. Slide the battery cover back into place until it clicks securely.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Power On/Off

  • To turn on: Press and hold the Power button (Power button icon) until you hear a beep.
  • To turn off: Press and hold the Power button until the display turns off.

6.2 Adjusting Volume

  • Press the Up (Up arrow button icon) or Down (Down arrow button icon) buttons to adjust the speaker volume. The volume level will be displayed on the LCD screen.

6.3 Channel Selection

Your walkie talkies have 22 available channels. To change channels:

  1. Press the MENU button once. The current channel number will flash on the LCD.
  2. Use the Up or Down buttons to select your desired channel.
  3. Press the TALK button to confirm your selection and exit the menu, or press MENU again to cycle through other settings.

Note: Both walkie talkies must be on the same channel to communicate.

6.4 Transmitting (Talking)

To speak to another walkie talkie:

  1. Ensure both units are on the same channel.
  2. Press and hold the TALK button.
  3. Speak clearly into the microphone, holding the unit approximately 2-3 inches from your mouth.
  4. Release the TALK button when you finish speaking to allow the other party to respond.

6.5 Monitoring

To listen for weak signals on the current channel, press and hold the MON (Monitor) button. Release the button to stop monitoring.

6.6 Flashlight Operation

Each unit includes a built-in flashlight:

  • To turn on the flashlight: Press the LAMP button (often located on the side or top).
  • To turn off the flashlight: Press the LAMP button again.

6.7 Keypad Lock

To prevent accidental changes to settings:

  • To activate keypad lock: Press and hold the MENU button until a key icon appears on the LCD.
  • To deactivate keypad lock: Press and hold the MENU button again until the key icon disappears.

6.8 VOX Function (Voice Operated Exchange)

VOX allows for hands-free transmission. When VOX is active, the walkie talkie will automatically transmit when it detects your voice.

  1. Press the MENU button multiple times until "VOX" appears on the LCD.
  2. Use the Up or Down buttons to select a VOX sensitivity level (e.g., OF for off, 1-3 for sensitivity). Higher numbers indicate higher sensitivity.
  3. Press the TALK button to confirm and exit, or MENU to continue.

6.9 Call Tone

To send a call tone to other walkie talkies on the same channel, double-click the TALK button quickly.

7. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Wipe the units with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Storage: Store the walkie talkies in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Remove batteries if storing for extended periods to prevent leakage.
  • Battery Care: Replace all batteries at the same time. Do not attempt to recharge non-rechargeable batteries.
