1. Introduction
This manual provides instructions for the installation and maintenance of the AmeriLite Black Replacement Headlights Set, designed for 1996-1998 Honda Civic 2/3/4 Door models. This set includes both the driver (left) and passenger (right) side headlight assemblies.
These headlights are a direct OEM replacement and are engineered to meet or exceed all U.S. and Canadian safety standards (DOT & SAE compliant).
2. Package Contents
The AmeriLite Black Replacement Headlights Set includes:
- One (1) Driver Side Headlight Assembly
- One (1) Passenger Side Headlight Assembly
3. Safety Information
- Always disconnect the vehicle's battery before beginning any electrical work.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including safety glasses and gloves.
- Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface with the parking brake engaged.
- Allow the engine and existing headlight components to cool down before handling.
- Professional installation is highly recommended to ensure proper function and safety.
4. Setup and Installation
Installation of these headlights is designed as a direct OEM replacement, typically requiring no modification. However, professional installation is strongly recommended to ensure proper fitment, wiring, and beam alignment.
General Installation Steps:
- Preparation: Park the vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake. Disconnect the negative terminal of the vehicle's battery.
- Access Existing Headlights: Depending on your Honda Civic model, you may need to remove the front bumper or grille to access the headlight mounting bolts. Consult your vehicle's service manual for specific removal procedures.
- Disconnect Wiring: Carefully disconnect the electrical connectors from the existing headlight bulbs and assembly.
- Remove Old Headlights: Unbolt and remove the old headlight assemblies from the vehicle.
- Install New Headlights: Position the new AmeriLite headlight assemblies into place. Secure them with the original mounting bolts. Ensure a snug fit.
- Connect Wiring: Reconnect the electrical connectors to the new headlight bulbs and assembly. Ensure all connections are secure.
- Test Functionality: Reconnect the vehicle's battery. Turn on the headlights (low beam, high beam, turn signals) to verify proper operation before fully reassembling the vehicle.
- Beam Adjustment: After installation, it is crucial to adjust the headlight beam aim for optimal visibility and to avoid blinding oncoming traffic. Use the beam adjuster screw located on the back of the headlight assembly. (Refer to image below for adjuster location).

5. Operating Instructions
Once installed, operate the headlights using your vehicle's standard headlight switch. Ensure both low beam and high beam functions are working correctly. Verify that the turn signals illuminate and flash as expected.
6. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Clean the headlight lenses regularly with a soft cloth and mild automotive-safe cleaner to maintain optimal light output and clarity. Avoid abrasive cleaners.
- Bulb Replacement: These headlights use halogen bulbs. If a bulb needs replacement, refer to your vehicle's owner's manual for the correct bulb type and follow the instructions for accessing the bulb receptacles (as shown in Figure 4).
- Seal Integrity: Periodically inspect the seals around the headlight assembly for any signs of wear or damage to prevent moisture intrusion.
7. Troubleshooting
- Headlights Not Working:
- Check all electrical connections to ensure they are secure.
- Verify that the bulbs are correctly seated in their receptacles.
- Inspect vehicle fuses related to the headlights.
- Ensure the vehicle's battery is properly connected and charged.
- Moisture Inside Headlight:
- While these headlights are designed to be waterproof, condensation can sometimes occur due to temperature changes. Small amounts of condensation usually dissipate naturally.
- If significant water accumulation or persistent moisture is observed, inspect the seals and ensure the bulb caps are securely in place. Re-sealing may be necessary.
- Improper Beam Aim:
- Adjust the headlight beam using the adjuster screw on the back of the assembly (refer to Figure 4). Consult a professional for precise alignment if needed.
- Loose Fitment:
- Ensure all mounting bolts are tightened securely. Recheck the installation steps.
