If your disposal encounters an issue, refer to the following common troubleshooting steps.

6.1 Disposal Does Not Start

  • Check Power: Ensure the disposal is plugged in and the wall switch is on.
  • Reset Button: The unit includes a manual reset appliance protector. Look for a small red button on the bottom of the disposal. Press it firmly. If it trips repeatedly, contact service.
  • Circuit Breaker: Check your household circuit breaker or fuse box.

6.2 Disposal Hums But Does Not Grind

  • This usually indicates an object is jammed in the grind chamber.
  • Disconnect Power: Turn off the disposal at the wall switch and unplug it.
  • Clear Jam: Use a flashlight to look into the drain opening. If an object is visible, carefully remove it with pliers or tongs. NEVER USE YOUR HANDS.
  • Allen Wrench: If no object is visible, insert the provided 1/4-inch Allen wrench into the center hole on the bottom of the disposal. Rotate it back and forth to free the impellers.
  • Reconnect power and press the reset button if necessary, then test.

6.3 Leaks

  • Check all plumbing connections for tightness.
  • Inspect the sink flange for proper sealing with plumber's putty.
  • Ensure the dishwasher inlet plug (if applicable) is securely in place or properly connected.
