Setup and Initial Use

Winding the Watch

As an automatic watch, the Sommerso 9007/A/MT is powered by the motion of your wrist. However, for initial setup or if the watch has stopped, it is recommended to manually wind it:

  1. Unscrew the crown located on the left side of the watch case by turning it counter-clockwise.
  2. Gently pull the crown out to the first position.
  3. Turn the crown clockwise approximately 20-30 times to build up the power reserve.
  4. Push the crown back in and screw it down clockwise to ensure water resistance.

Setting the Time and Date

To set the time and date:

  1. Unscrew the crown and pull it out to the second position (farthest out).
  2. Turn the crown clockwise or counter-clockwise to set the desired time. Ensure the AM/PM is correctly set if your watch has a date function that changes at midnight.
  3. For the date, pull the crown out to the first position. Turn the crown to adjust the date.
  4. Once time and date are set, push the crown back in and screw it down firmly to maintain water resistance.

Operating the Watch

Automatic Movement

Your U-Boat Sommerso watch features an automatic mechanical movement. This means it is powered by the natural motion of your wrist. When worn regularly, the watch will remain wound. If the watch is not worn for an extended period (typically 40-48 hours depending on the power reserve), it may stop. Simply re-wind it manually as described in the "Setup" section or wear it for a few hours to restart the movement.

Water Resistance

The Sommerso 9007/A/MT is water resistant to 300 meters (1000 feet). This makes it suitable for professional marine activity and serious surface water sports, but not for saturation diving. Always ensure the crown is fully screwed down before exposing the watch to water.

Maintenance and Care

Proper care will ensure the longevity and performance of your U-Boat watch.

  • Cleaning: Regularly wipe your watch with a soft, dry cloth. For stainless steel parts, a slightly damp cloth can be used, followed by immediate drying. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
  • Water Exposure: After exposure to saltwater, rinse the watch with fresh water and dry it thoroughly. Always ensure the crown is screwed down before rinsing.
  • Temperature: Avoid exposing the watch to extreme temperature changes or direct sunlight for prolonged periods, as this can affect the movement and seals.
  • Magnetic Fields: Keep the watch away from strong magnetic fields (e.g., speakers, refrigerators, certain electronic devices) as they can affect the accuracy of the mechanical movement.
  • Servicing: It is recommended to have your watch serviced by an authorized U-Boat service center every 3-5 years to ensure its water resistance and mechanical integrity.
