5. Setup

5.1 Rack Mounting

5.2 Connecting to Power and Equipment

  1. Connect the UPS input power cord (NEMA 5-15P) to a grounded 120V AC wall outlet. Avoid connecting to surge protectors or extension cords.
  2. Allow the UPS to charge for at least 24 hours before initial use to ensure full battery capacity.
  3. Connect your critical equipment (servers, network devices, etc.) to the NEMA 5-15R output receptacles on the rear of the UPS. Ensure the total load does not exceed the UPS capacity (900W).
  4. For remote monitoring, connect an Ethernet cable from your network to the APC SmartConnect port on the rear of the UPS.
  5. Optionally, connect the USB or serial cable to a computer for local monitoring and management.

5.3 Initial Startup

After connecting the UPS and allowing initial charging, press the power button on the front panel to turn on the unit. The LCD display will illuminate, and the UPS will perform a self-test. The UPS is now ready to provide protected power.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Power On/Off

  • To Power On: Press and hold the power button on the front panel until the unit beeps and the LCD illuminates.
  • To Power Off: Press and hold the power button until the unit beeps and the LCD turns off. Ensure all connected equipment is safely shut down before powering off the UPS.

6.2 LCD Display and Navigation

The LCD display provides real-time information. Use the navigation buttons (up/down arrows) to scroll through various screens displaying input/output voltage, load percentage, battery charge, estimated runtime, and event logs. The 'Enter' button confirms selections, and the 'Escape' button returns to the previous screen.

6.3 APC SmartConnect

APC SmartConnect allows for remote monitoring of your UPS via a secure web portal. Once the UPS is connected to your network, register your device at smartconnect.apc.com. This service provides automatic notifications, firmware updates, and diagnostic support.

7.1 Battery Replacement

The UPS batteries are user-replaceable. Refer to the APC website or contact APC support for specific instructions and compatible replacement battery cartridges (RBCs). Always use genuine APC replacement batteries to ensure optimal performance and safety. Disconnect the UPS from all power sources before attempting battery replacement.
