Introduction
The Meike MK-RF-AF1 Macro Extension Tube Kit is designed to enable macro photography with your Canon RF mount mirrorless cameras. This kit includes 13mm and 18mm extension tubes that can be used individually or combined to achieve various magnification levels. By increasing the distance between your lens and the camera sensor, these tubes allow for closer focusing distances, effectively magnifying your subject without altering the optical quality of your lens.

This image displays the two black macro extension tubes, one labeled "13mm" and the other "18mm", with "MEIKE MK-RF-AF1" branding. They are shown stacked, highlighting their compact design.
The MK-RF-AF1 kit consists of two metal extension tubes: one 13mm and one 18mm. These tubes are designed with electronic contacts to maintain autofocus (AF) functionality and aperture control between your camera body and lens. The robust metal construction ensures durability and a secure fit.

Setup and Installation
The Meike MK-RF-AF1 extension tubes are compatible with all full-frame Canon RF mount mirrorless cameras, including EOS R, EOS RP, R5, and R6. Ensure your camera is powered off before attaching or detaching any components.
Attaching the Extension Tube(s)
- Align the red dot on the extension tube with the red dot on your camera body's lens mount.
- Rotate the extension tube clockwise until it clicks securely into place.
- If using multiple tubes, align the red dot on the second tube with the red dot on the first tube and rotate clockwise until it clicks.
- Align the red dot on your lens with the red dot on the outermost extension tube.
- Rotate the lens clockwise until it clicks securely into place.

Operating Instructions
When using the Meike MK-RF-AF1 extension tubes, the minimum focusing distance of your lens is significantly reduced, allowing you to get much closer to your subject and achieve greater magnification. The electronic contacts ensure that your camera's autofocus and aperture control functions remain operational.
Achieving Macro Effects
- Single Tube Use: Use either the 13mm or 18mm tube individually for moderate macro magnification.
- Combined Tube Use: Stack both the 13mm and 18mm tubes (total 31mm) for maximum magnification and the closest focusing distance.
Exposure and Focus
- Autofocus (AF): The tubes support autofocus. However, for very close-up macro shots, precise focusing can be challenging.
- Manual Focus: For critical focus in macro photography, it is often recommended to use manual focus. Your camera's focus peaking and magnification assist features can be very helpful.
- Exposure Control: The tubes transmit aperture information, allowing your camera to control exposure. For optimal results, especially in challenging lighting, consider using manual mode to directly adjust shutter speed and aperture for desired exposure levels.
Maintenance
To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Meike MK-RF-AF1 extension tubes, follow these maintenance guidelines:
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry microfiber cloth to clean the exterior of the tubes. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
- Electronic Contacts: Gently clean the gold-plated electronic contacts with a clean, dry cotton swab if dust or debris accumulates. Do not touch the contacts with your fingers.
- Storage: Store the extension tubes in a dry, dust-free environment when not in use. Use the provided caps to protect the mounts from dust and scratches.
- Handling: Always handle the tubes by their barrel. Avoid dropping or subjecting them to strong impacts.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues while using your Meike MK-RF-AF1 extension tubes, consider the following:
- Autofocus Issues: While the tubes support AF, extreme macro distances can challenge the camera's autofocus system. If AF struggles, switch to manual focus. Ensure sufficient lighting for the AF system to function effectively.
- Exposure Problems: If images are consistently over or underexposed, verify your camera's exposure settings (aperture, shutter speed, ISO). In manual mode, adjust these settings as needed.
- Connection Issues: If the camera or lens does not recognize the tubes, ensure they are securely attached and clicked into place. Check the electronic contacts on both the tubes and your camera/lens for any obstructions or damage.
- Sticky Release Latch: Some users have reported a sticky release latch. Ensure proper alignment and gentle but firm pressure when attaching/detaching. Avoid forcing the components.
