5. Setup and Installation
Follow these steps to install your Eglo 98187 Solar Wall Light:
- Choose a Location: Select a wall or surface for the light unit and a separate location for the solar panel. The solar panel requires direct sunlight for at least 6 hours daily to fully charge the battery. Avoid shaded areas.
- Mount the Light Unit:
- Mark the drilling points on the wall using the light unit as a template.
- Drill holes and insert the provided wall plugs.
- Secure the light unit to the wall using the provided screws.

6. Operating Instructions
The Eglo 98187 Solar Wall Light features a multi-function switch and an integrated motion sensor.
- Switch Settings: Locate the switch on the back of the light unit (refer to Figure 3). It typically has three positions: AUTO, OFF, and ON.
- AUTO: This is the recommended setting. The light will automatically turn on at dusk when motion is detected within its range. It will turn off after a set period of no motion.
- OFF: The light will remain off, regardless of motion or ambient light. Use this setting for storage or if you do not wish for the light to operate.
- ON: The light will remain continuously on at night until the battery drains or dawn breaks. This setting is not recommended for daily use as it will deplete the battery quickly.
- Motion Sensor: The integrated motion sensor has a detection angle of 90 degrees and a range of up to 8 meters. Ensure the sensor is not obstructed for optimal performance.
- Automatic Operation: In AUTO mode, the light charges during the day via the solar panel. At night, it will activate when motion is detected, providing illumination for safety and convenience.

7. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and extends the lifespan of your solar wall light.
- Cleaning the Solar Panel: Periodically wipe the solar panel with a soft, damp cloth to remove dust, dirt, or debris. A clean panel ensures efficient charging.
- Cleaning the Light Unit: Clean the light unit and motion sensor lens with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Battery Replacement: The light uses 3 AA batteries. While included, these are typically rechargeable and designed for long-term use. If the light's performance significantly degrades over time (e.g., shorter illumination time), the rechargeable batteries may need replacement. Use only rechargeable AA batteries of the same type and capacity.
- Seasonal Adjustments: In winter months or periods of reduced sunlight, ensure the solar panel is free of snow or ice and adjust its angle if necessary to capture maximum available light.
8. Troubleshooting
If your Eglo 98187 Solar Wall Light is not functioning as expected, try the following solutions:
- Light does not turn on at night:
- Ensure the switch is set to AUTO.
- Verify the solar panel is clean and receiving at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily.
- Check the connection cable between the solar panel and the light unit.
- The battery may be depleted. Allow several days of full sunlight charging.
- Motion sensor is not detecting:
- Ensure the sensor lens is clean and unobstructed.
- Verify the light is installed within the recommended detection range (up to 8 meters).
- Test the sensor by walking directly in front of it at night.
- Light stays on continuously or flashes:
- Ensure the switch is set to AUTO, not ON.
- Insufficient charge can sometimes cause erratic behavior. Allow for more charging time.
