2. General Safety Instructions

Always follow basic safety precautions when using electrical tools to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and personal injury. Keep this manual for future reference.

2.1 Work Area Safety

  • Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.
  • Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.
  • Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control.

2.2 Electrical Safety

  • Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way.
  • Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.
  • Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock.

2.3 Personal Safety

  • Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power tool.
  • Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection. Protective equipment such as dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries.
  • Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off-position before connecting to power source and/or battery pack, picking up or carrying the tool.

5. Setup

5.1 Charging the Battery

  1. Connect the battery charger to a standard power outlet.
  2. Slide the battery pack onto the charger until it clicks into place.
  3. The charger indicator light will show the charging status. A full charge typically takes approximately 1 hour.
  4. Once fully charged, remove the battery from the charger.

5.2 Installing/Removing the Battery

  • To Install: Align the battery pack with the base of the drill handle and slide it in until it locks securely.
  • To Remove: Press the battery release button (usually located on the side of the battery pack) and slide the battery out.

5.3 Installing/Removing Drill Bits

  1. Ensure the drill is switched off and the battery is removed for safety.
  2. Rotate the chuck counter-clockwise to open the jaws.
  3. Insert the drill bit or screwdriver bit into the chuck, ensuring it is centered.
  4. Rotate the chuck clockwise to tighten the jaws firmly around the bit. Hand-tighten only.
  5. To remove, rotate the chuck counter-clockwise to loosen the jaws and pull the bit out.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Powering On/Off and Speed Control

  • On/Off: Press the trigger switch to turn the drill on. Release the trigger to turn it off.
  • Variable Speed: The speed of the drill is controlled by the amount of pressure applied to the trigger switch. Pressing lightly results in lower speed, while pressing fully results in maximum speed.
  • Forward/Reverse Switch: Located above the trigger, push the switch to the left for forward rotation (drilling/driving screws in) and to the right for reverse rotation (removing screws). Center position locks the trigger for safety.

6.2 Adjusting Torque and Mode Settings

The drill features a collar with 20 torque settings and 3 mode selections:

Figure 5: Torque and mode selection collar.

  • Torque Settings (1-20): Rotate the collar to select the desired torque level for screwdriving. Lower numbers are for smaller screws and softer materials, higher numbers for larger screws and harder materials. This prevents over-tightening or stripping screws.
  • Drill Mode (Drill Icon): For general drilling into wood, metal, and plastic. The clutch is disengaged, providing maximum torque.
  • Driver Mode (Screwdriver Icon): For driving screws. The clutch engages at the selected torque setting.
  • Hammer Mode (Hammer Icon): For drilling into masonry, brick, and concrete. This mode provides an impacting action in addition to rotation.

6.3 Gear Selection

A two-speed gear selector switch is located on top of the drill:

Figure 6: Dual speed and function selector.

  • Gear 1 (Low Speed, High Torque): Ideal for heavy-duty screwdriving and drilling large holes in tough materials (0-450 RPM).
  • Gear 2 (High Speed, Low Torque): Suitable for fast drilling in wood, plastic, and light metal, and for smaller screwdriving tasks (0-1450 RPM).

Always ensure the drill is stopped before changing gears to prevent damage.

7. Maintenance

7.1 Cleaning

  • Regularly clean the ventilation openings of the drill to prevent overheating.
  • Use a soft, damp cloth to wipe down the exterior of the tool. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Keep the chuck jaws free of dust and debris to ensure proper bit gripping.

7.2 Storage

  • Store the drill and batteries in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture.
  • Ensure batteries are partially charged (around 50%) before long-term storage to maintain battery health.
  • Store the tool in its original carrying case to protect it from damage.

7.3 Battery Care

  • Do not expose batteries to extreme temperatures or direct heat.
  • Do not short-circuit battery terminals.
  • Only use the charger supplied with the tool to charge the batteries.
  • If a battery is damaged or no longer holds a charge, dispose of it responsibly according to local regulations.
