1. Setup Guide
This section provides instructions for the initial setup of your MERCUSYS MS108G Gigabit Desktop Switch. The device is designed for plug-and-play operation, requiring minimal configuration.
1.1 Package Contents
Verify that your package contains the following items:
- MERCUSYS MS108G 8-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch
- Power Adapter
- Quick Installation Guide
1.2 Physical Installation
- Placement: Place the switch on a stable, flat surface. Ensure adequate ventilation around the device. Avoid placing it near heat sources or in direct sunlight.
- Connect Devices: Connect your network devices (e.g., computers, printers, network-attached storage) to the switch's RJ45 ports using standard Ethernet cables. The MS108G features 8 Gigabit Ethernet ports.
- Power Connection: Connect the provided power adapter to the switch's power input port and then plug the adapter into a standard electrical outlet. The Power LED on the switch should illuminate, indicating that the device is receiving power.

2. Operation
The MERCUSYS MS108G is an unmanaged switch, meaning it operates automatically without requiring any software configuration. Once connected, it facilitates high-speed data transfer between connected devices.
2.1 Basic Functionality
- Plug and Play: Simply connect your devices and power on the switch. No drivers or software installation are required.
- Gigabit Speed: All 8 ports support 10/100/1000Mbps auto-negotiation, providing maximum throughput for your wired network.
- Auto MDI/MDIX: Eliminates the need for crossover cables. Any port can be connected to a server, a hub, or a switch using a straight-through cable.
- LED Indicators: Each port has an LED indicator to show link status and activity. A solid light indicates a stable connection, and a blinking light indicates data transmission.

3. Maintenance
Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your MS108G switch.
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the switch. Do not use liquid or aerosol cleaners.
- Ventilation: Ensure that the ventilation openings are not blocked to prevent overheating.
- Power Cycle: If the device is unresponsive, disconnect the power adapter, wait for 10 seconds, and then reconnect it.
- Cable Management: Keep network cables organized and free from kinks or excessive bending to prevent signal degradation.
4. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your MS108G switch, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
- No Power LED:
- Ensure the power adapter is securely connected to the switch and a working electrical outlet.
- Verify the power outlet is functional by plugging in another device.
- No Link/Activity LED for a Connected Device:
- Check if the Ethernet cable is securely plugged into both the switch port and the device.
- Try a different Ethernet cable.
- Ensure the connected device is powered on and its network adapter is functioning correctly.
- Try connecting the device to a different port on the switch.
- Slow Network Speed:
- Ensure all connected devices and cables support Gigabit Ethernet (Cat5e or higher cables are recommended for Gigabit speeds).
- Check for network congestion or issues with the connected router/modem.
