4. Setup and Installation
4.1 Preparing the Car Seat
Before installation, ensure all components are present and undamaged. Familiarize yourself with the car seat's parts, including the harness, headrest, recline lever, and ISOFIX connectors.
4.2 ISOFIX Installation (Group 1/2/3: 9-36 kg)
The ISOFIX system provides a secure and rigid connection between the car seat and your vehicle's ISOFIX anchor points.
- Locate the ISOFIX anchor points in your vehicle. These are usually found between the backrest and seat cushion.
- Extend the ISOFIX connectors from the base of the car seat by pressing the release button (if applicable) and pulling them out.
- Align the ISOFIX connectors with the vehicle's anchor points and push the car seat firmly until you hear a distinct 'click' on both sides. Check the indicators on the connectors; they should turn green.
- Push the car seat firmly against the vehicle's backrest to remove any slack.
- Attach the top tether strap to the designated anchor point in your vehicle (refer to your vehicle's manual for location). Tighten the top tether strap until it is taut and the indicator (if present) shows it is correctly tensioned.
- Verify that the car seat is securely installed by attempting to move it from side to side and front to back. There should be minimal movement.

4.3 Vehicle Seat Belt Installation (Alternative)
If your vehicle does not have ISOFIX anchor points, or if you prefer, the car seat can be installed using the vehicle's 3-point seat belt.
- Place the car seat on the vehicle seat.
- Route the vehicle's 3-point seat belt through the designated belt guides on the car seat. Ensure the lap belt is low across the child's hips and the shoulder belt crosses the child's shoulder and chest, not their neck.
- Buckle the vehicle seat belt.
- Press down firmly on the car seat while pulling the vehicle seat belt tight to remove all slack.
- Verify that the car seat is securely installed by attempting to move it. There should be minimal movement.
4.4 Adjusting the Headrest
The headrest has 7 adjustable positions to grow with your child, ensuring optimal head and neck support.
- Locate the headrest adjustment lever, typically at the top or back of the headrest.
- Squeeze the lever and simultaneously raise or lower the headrest to the desired height.
- Release the lever to lock the headrest in place. The shoulder straps of the harness (in Group 1 mode) should be at or just below your child's shoulders.

4.5 Adjusting the Recline
The car seat offers 4 recline positions for your child's comfort, especially during longer journeys or naps.
- Locate the recline adjustment lever, usually at the front or side of the car seat base.
- While holding the car seat firmly, squeeze the recline lever and adjust the seat to one of the four desired positions.
- Ensure the seat is securely locked into the chosen recline position before placing your child in it.

4.6 Transitioning to Group 2/3 Booster Mode (15-36 kg)
When your child reaches approximately 15 kg (or 18 kg, depending on local regulations and child's height), you can convert the Orcas NXT Fix into a high-back booster seat by removing the internal 5-point harness.
- Carefully follow the instructions in your full product manual for safely removing the 5-point harness system. Store the harness components in a safe place for future use if needed.
- Ensure the headrest is adjusted so the vehicle's shoulder belt passes correctly over your child's shoulder, not their neck.
- The car seat will now be used with the vehicle's 3-point seat belt to secure your child.

5.1 Securing Your Child (Group 1: 9-18 kg)
When using the 5-point harness:
- Place your child in the car seat.
- Bring the shoulder straps over your child's shoulders and connect the buckle tongues into the buckle.

- Ensure the chest clip is positioned at armpit level.

- Ensure the shoulder belt crosses the center of your child's shoulder and chest, not their neck or arm.
- Buckle the vehicle seat belt and pull it taut to remove any slack.
6. Maintenance
6.1 Cleaning Instructions
- Fabric Covers: The fabric covers are removable and machine washable. Refer to the care label on the fabric for specific washing instructions (e.g., cold water, delicate cycle). Do not tumble dry.
- Harness Straps: Wipe harness straps with a damp cloth and mild soap. Do not machine wash or immerse in water, as this may weaken the webbing.
- Plastic Parts: Wipe plastic parts with a damp cloth and mild soap. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Buckle: Clean the buckle by rinsing it with warm water. Do not use detergents or lubricants.
6.2 Inspection
- Regularly inspect the car seat for any signs of wear, damage, or loose parts.
- Check that the harness, buckles, and adjusters are functioning correctly.
- Ensure the ISOFIX connectors and top tether are in good condition.
- If any part is damaged, discontinue use and contact customer support for replacement parts or advice.
7. Troubleshooting
If you encounter any issues with your Diono Orcas NXT Fix car seat, please refer to the following common solutions:
- Harness is difficult to tighten: Ensure the harness straps are not twisted and are routed correctly through the seat. Check for any obstructions under the seat or around the tightening mechanism. If the issue persists, ensure the harness is clean and free of debris.
- Car seat feels loose after installation: Re-check all installation steps. For ISOFIX, ensure both connectors are clicked in and the top tether is taut. For seat belt installation, ensure the belt is routed correctly through all guides and pulled tight while pressing down on the seat.
- Child is uncomfortable: Adjust the headrest and recline position to better suit your child's size and preference. Ensure the harness is not too tight or too loose.
If you cannot resolve an issue, please contact Diono customer support for assistance.
