1. Introduction
This manual provides essential information for the safe and efficient operation, installation, and maintenance of your Truper 13499 PRES-1/3T 1/3 HP Pressure Booster Pump. Please read these instructions carefully before installation and use to ensure proper function and to prevent damage or injury. Keep this manual for future reference.
2. Safety Information
Always observe the following safety precautions:
- Ensure the power supply matches the pump's voltage and frequency (127 V - 60 Hz).
- Disconnect power before performing any maintenance or installation.
- Do not operate the pump with flammable liquids.
- Protect the pump from freezing temperatures.
- Installation should be performed by a qualified professional if you are unsure.
- Keep children and unauthorized persons away from the operating pump.
3. Product Components
The Truper 13499 PRES-1/3T Pressure Booster Pump includes the main pump unit, an integrated pressure switch, and power cord with an on/off switch. Refer to the image below for a visual representation of the pump and its key components.

Figure 1: Truper 13499 PRES-1/3T Pressure Booster Pump. This image shows the complete pump assembly, including the orange motor housing, the dark gray pump body, brass fittings for water inlet and outlet, and the integrated flow switch with an arrow indicating water flow direction. The power cord with an inline on/off switch is also visible.
Key components:
- Pump Body: Dark gray cast iron housing for the impeller and water channels.
- Motor Housing: Orange casing protecting the electric motor.
- Inlet/Outlet Fittings: Brass threaded connections for plumbing.
- Flow Switch: Orange component with an arrow, detecting water flow to activate the pump.
- Power Cord: Electrical connection with an integrated on/off switch.
4. Setup and Installation
Proper installation is crucial for the pump's performance and longevity.
- Location:
- Install the pump in a dry, well-ventilated area, protected from direct sunlight, rain, and freezing temperatures.
- Ensure the pump is placed on a stable, level surface to minimize vibration.
- Allow adequate space around the pump for ventilation and maintenance access.
- Plumbing Connections:
- Connect the pump to the water supply line using appropriate plumbing fittings. Ensure all connections are watertight.
- Observe the flow direction indicated by the arrow on the flow switch (Figure 1). The pump must be installed in line with the water flow.
- Use flexible connectors to reduce vibration transmission to the plumbing system.
- Install shut-off valves on both the inlet and outlet sides of the pump for easier maintenance.
- Electrical Connection:
- Ensure the power outlet is properly grounded and matches the pump's electrical requirements (127 V - 60 Hz).
- Plug the pump's power cord into the grounded outlet.
- Do not use extension cords unless absolutely necessary, and ensure they are rated for the pump's power requirements.
- Priming the Pump:
- Before initial operation, ensure the pump is filled with water to prevent dry running. Open a faucet downstream to allow air to escape.
- Once water flows steadily from the faucet, close it. The pump is now primed.
5. Operating Instructions
The Truper 13499 PRES-1/3T pump operates automatically based on water flow.
- Initial Start-up:
- After installation and priming, ensure the inline switch on the power cord is in the "OFF" position.
- Plug the pump into a suitable electrical outlet.
- Switch the inline power switch to the "ON" position. The pump will remain off until water flow is detected.
- Automatic Operation:
- When a water outlet (e.g., faucet, shower) is opened, the flow switch detects water movement.
- The pump automatically starts, boosting water pressure.
- When the water outlet is closed, the flow stops, and the pump automatically shuts off after a short delay.
- Duty Cycle:
- The pump is designed for intermittent use: 50 minutes of work followed by 20 minutes of rest.
- The daily maximum operating time is 6 hours. Adhering to this duty cycle will prolong the pump's lifespan.
6. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and extends the life of your pump.
- Cleaning: Periodically clean the exterior of the pump to prevent dust and debris buildup. Do not use harsh chemicals.
- Connections: Regularly check all plumbing and electrical connections for leaks or loose fittings. Tighten as necessary.
- Winterization: If the pump is installed in an area subject to freezing temperatures, it must be drained and disconnected during winter months to prevent damage.
- Inspection: Inspect the power cord for any signs of damage or wear. Replace if necessary.
Warning: Always disconnect the pump from the power supply before performing any maintenance.
7. Troubleshooting
This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your pressure booster pump.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Pump does not start. | No power supply. Inline switch is OFF. No water flow detected. | Check power outlet and circuit breaker. Turn inline switch to ON. Open a water outlet to initiate flow. Ensure pump is primed. |
| Pump runs continuously. | Leak in plumbing system. Flow switch malfunction. Constant low water flow. | Check all connections for leaks and repair. Contact qualified service personnel. Ensure all outlets are fully closed. |
| Insufficient pressure boost. | Pump not properly primed. Inlet water pressure too low. Obstruction in plumbing. | Re-prime the pump. Ensure minimum input pressure of 0.72 PSI is met. Inspect plumbing for blockages. |
| Pump is noisy or vibrates excessively. | Air in the system. Loose mounting. Internal component wear. | Re-prime the pump to remove air. Ensure pump is securely mounted on a stable surface. Contact qualified service personnel. |
