1. Introduction

Thank you for choosing the Ultra-Tow Pickup Truck Crane with Hand Winch. This manual provides essential information for the safe and efficient operation, assembly, and maintenance of your crane. Please read this manual thoroughly before use and retain it for future reference.

This crane is designed to assist in lifting and lowering loads up to 1000 lbs. (fully retracted) or 500 lbs. (fully extended) into and out of a pickup truck bed. It features a 360° rotation capability and a telescopic boom for versatile use.

2. Safety Information

WARNING: Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious injury or property damage.

• Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses and gloves, when operating the crane.
• Do not exceed the crane's rated load capacity: 1000 lbs. fully retracted, 500 lbs. fully extended.
• Ensure the crane is securely mounted to a stable surface capable of supporting the crane's weight plus the maximum load.

3. Parts List

4. Setup & Assembly

Proper assembly is crucial for safe operation. Follow these steps carefully:

1. Unpack Components: Carefully remove all parts from the packaging. Verify all components listed in the parts list are present and undamaged.
2. Mount the Base Plate:
   • Choose a strong, flat, and stable mounting surface in your truck bed or workshop. The surface must be able to withstand the crane's weight and maximum load.
   • Mark the drilling locations using the base plate as a template.
   • Drill appropriate holes for mounting bolts (not included).
   • Securely fasten the base plate using high-strength bolts, washers, and nuts. Ensure all fasteners are tightened to the manufacturer's specifications.
3. Attach the Vertical Mast: Insert the vertical mast into the swivel base on the mounted base plate. Secure it with the provided pins or bolts.
4. Install the Boom Arm: Attach the boom arm to the top of the vertical mast, ensuring the pivot points are correctly aligned and secured with pins.
5. Connect Hydraulic Cylinder: Connect the hydraulic cylinder between the vertical mast and the boom arm. Ensure all pins and clips are securely in place.
6. Mount the Hand Winch: Secure the hand winch to the designated mounting points on the boom arm using the provided hardware.
7. Route the Winch Cable: Carefully route the winch cable over the pulley at the end of the boom arm and attach the hook. Ensure the cable is not twisted or kinked.
8. Final Inspection: Before first use, double-check all connections, pins, bolts, and the winch cable for proper installation and security.

5. Operating Instructions

Follow these steps for safe and effective operation of your crane:

1. Pre-Operation Check:
   • Inspect the entire crane for any signs of damage, wear, or loose components.
   • Check the winch cable for fraying, kinks, or damage.
   • Ensure the hydraulic cylinder is functioning correctly and free of leaks.
   • Verify the mounting bolts are tight.
2. Positioning the Crane:
   • Rotate the boom arm to the desired position over the load. The crane offers 360° rotation.
   • Adjust the boom arm extension by pulling the boom pin, extending or retracting the arm, and re-inserting the pin into the appropriate hole. Note the load capacity changes with extension (refer to Figure 3.1).
3. Lifting a Load:
   • Attach the hook securely to the load, ensuring the safety latch is closed.
   • Operate the hand winch handle to slowly raise the load. Turn the handle clockwise to lift.
   • Lift the load only high enough to clear obstacles.
   • Once lifted, rotate the boom arm to position the load over the desired landing area.
4. Lowering a Load:
   • Slowly release the winch mechanism to lower the load. Turn the handle counter-clockwise to lower.
   • Guide the load to prevent swinging or uncontrolled descent.
   • Once the load is safely on the ground or surface, detach the hook.
5. Post-Operation:
   • Retract the boom arm to its shortest position.
   • Lower the boom arm fully.
   • Store the winch cable neatly on the spool.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of your crane:

• Lubrication: Periodically lubricate all pivot points, the winch gears, and the hydraulic cylinder rod with appropriate grease or oil.
• Cable Inspection: Regularly inspect the winch cable for signs of wear, fraying, corrosion, or kinks. Replace the cable immediately if any damage is found.
• Hardware Check: Routinely check all bolts, nuts, and pins for tightness. Re-tighten as necessary.
• Cleaning: Keep the crane clean and free of dirt, debris, and corrosive materials. Wipe down metal surfaces after use, especially in wet or harsh conditions.
• Hydraulic Fluid: Check the hydraulic fluid level in the cylinder periodically. Refer to the cylinder manufacturer's instructions for fluid type and filling procedures.
• Storage: When not in use, store the crane in a dry, protected area to prevent rust and corrosion.
