1. Product Overview
This manual provides instructions for the EDGELEC 50-piece set of 12 Volt 3mm Red Pre-Wired LED Diodes. These LEDs are designed for ease of use, featuring a built-in resistor and pre-attached wires, making them suitable for various electronic projects and lighting applications.
- Quantity: 50 pieces
- LED Type: 3mm Red, Diffused Colored Lens
- Voltage: DC 12V (with pre-loaded 1/4W metal film resistor)
- Wire Length: Approximately 7.9 inches (20 cm)
- Lifespan: 20,000+ hours
2. Safety Information
- Ensure the power source is DC 12V. Connecting to higher voltages without proper current limiting will damage the LEDs.
- Observe correct polarity: Red wire is Anode (+), Black wire is Cathode (-). Incorrect polarity will prevent the LED from lighting up.
- Do not exceed the specified forward current of 20mA. Although a resistor is built-in for 12V operation, always verify your circuit.
- LEDs can generate some heat during operation. Ensure adequate ventilation if used in enclosed spaces.
- Keep out of reach of children.
3. Setup and Installation
These pre-wired LEDs simplify installation by including a current-limiting resistor and wire leads.
- Identify Wires: The red wire is the positive terminal (Anode), and the black wire is the negative terminal (Cathode).
- Connect to Power Source: Connect the red wire to the positive (+) terminal of your 12V DC power supply and the black wire to the negative (-) terminal.
- Secure Connections: Ensure all connections are secure and properly insulated to prevent short circuits. The wire leads are tin-coated at the ends for easier soldering or connection to terminal blocks.
- Mounting: The 3mm LED can be mounted into a 3mm hole. The diffused lens provides a wide viewing angle.

4. Operating Instructions
Once properly connected to a 12V DC power source, the LED will illuminate. No further operational steps are required. The built-in resistor ensures the LED operates safely within its specified parameters at 12V.
5. Maintenance
These LEDs are designed for long-term, maintenance-free operation. To ensure optimal performance and longevity:
- Keep the LEDs and connections clean and free from dust or debris.
- Avoid exposing the LEDs to excessive moisture or extreme temperatures outside their operating range.
- Periodically check connections for any signs of wear or corrosion, especially in high-vibration environments.
6. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| LED does not light up | Incorrect polarity No power to the circuit Faulty connection Damaged LED | Verify red wire to (+) and black wire to (-) Check power supply and circuit continuity Inspect and secure all wire connections Replace the LED |
| LED is dim | Insufficient voltage Poor connection | Ensure power supply provides stable 12V DC Check and secure all wire connections |
