Setup

1. Unpacking and Initial Inspection

Carefully remove the binocular and all accessories from the packaging. Inspect for any signs of damage. The package should include the binocular, a carrying case, and a 5-piece cleaning kit.

2. Adjusting Eyecups

The eyecups can be adjusted to suit users with or without eyeglasses. Rotate the eyecups counter-clockwise to extend them for use without glasses. Rotate clockwise to retract them for use with glasses. This ensures the correct eye relief for a full field of view.

3. Interpupillary Distance Adjustment

Hold the binocular up to your eyes and look through it. Adjust the hinge between the two barrels by folding or unfolding the binocular until you see a single, circular field of view. This sets the interpupillary distance to match the distance between your eyes.

4. Diopter Adjustment

The right eyepiece has a diopter adjustment ring to compensate for differences in vision between your left and right eyes. Follow these steps:

  1. Close your right eye or cover the right objective lens.
  2. Look through the left eyepiece with your left eye and focus on a distant object using the central focus wheel until the image is sharp.
  3. Close your left eye or cover the left objective lens.
  4. Look through the right eyepiece with your right eye and adjust the diopter ring (usually located on the right eyepiece) until the image is sharp. Do not use the central focus wheel for this step.
  5. Once both eyes are adjusted, you can use the central focus wheel for general focusing.

Operating the Binocular

Focusing Procedure

After completing the initial setup (interpupillary distance and diopter adjustment), focusing is straightforward:

  1. Hold the binocular steady with both hands.
  2. Look through both eyepieces at the object you wish to observe.
  3. Rotate the central focus wheel until the image appears clear and sharp.

Observing with Glasses

If you wear eyeglasses, ensure the eyecups are fully retracted (rotated clockwise) to achieve the correct eye relief and a full field of view. If you wear contact lenses, you may extend the eyecups as if not wearing glasses.

Maintenance and Care

Proper care will ensure your ZEISS Victory Pocket binocular provides years of reliable service. The binocular is robust, waterproof, and fogproof, but regular cleaning is recommended.

Cleaning the Lenses

The binocular features ZEISS LotuTec coating, which repels water and dirt, making cleaning easier. Use the included 5-piece cleaning kit for best results.

  1. Remove Loose Dust: Use the air blower or a soft brush from the cleaning kit to gently remove any loose dust or particles from the lens surfaces. Avoid wiping dry lenses, as this can cause scratches.
  2. Clean Smudges: If smudges or fingerprints are present, lightly spray the lens cleaning fluid onto a clean microfiber cloth (also included in the kit). Gently wipe the lens surface in a circular motion until clean.
  3. Drying: Allow the lenses to air dry or use a fresh, dry part of the microfiber cloth.

Important: Never use abrasive materials, harsh chemicals, or excessive force when cleaning the lenses. The LotuTec coating is durable but can be damaged by improper cleaning.

General Care

  • Avoid dropping or subjecting the binocular to severe impacts.
  • Keep lens caps on when not in use to protect the optical surfaces.
  • The rubber armor provides protection; however, avoid prolonged exposure to extreme heat or direct sunlight.

Storage

Store the binocular in its protective carrying case in a cool, dry place when not in use. Avoid storing in areas with high humidity or extreme temperature fluctuations.

Troubleshooting

  • Blurred Image:
    • Ensure the central focus wheel is properly adjusted for the observed distance.
    • Verify that the diopter adjustment for your right eye is correctly set.
    • Check if the eyecups are set correctly for your use (extended for no glasses, retracted for glasses).
    • Clean the objective and eyepiece lenses if smudges or dirt are present.
  • Two Separate Images / Difficulty Merging Views:
    • Adjust the interpupillary distance by folding or unfolding the binocular barrels until a single, circular field of view is achieved.
  • Internal Misting:
    • The ZEISS Victory Pocket binocular is nitrogen-filled and sealed to prevent internal fogging. If internal misting occurs, it may indicate a seal compromise. Contact ZEISS customer support for assistance.
