Setup
Initial Connection:
- Ensure your laptop has a USB Type-C (Gen 2) / Thunderbolt 3 / Thunderbolt 4 port that supports "Displayport Alt Mode".
- Connect the integrated USB-C cable from the docking station to your laptop's USB-C port.
- For power delivery, connect your laptop's USB-C charger to the USB-C PD port on the docking station.
Display Setup:
The docking station supports various display modes depending on your operating system.

Figure 3: Windows and macOS display configurations.
- Windows (Extend & Mirror Mode): Windows 10/11 supports extended and mirrored displays across multiple monitors. Connect your HDMI and VGA monitors to the respective ports on the docking station.
- macOS (Non-Mirror & Mirror Mode): macOS does not support Multi-Stream Transport (MST) for extended mode across multiple external displays. It supports mirrored mode or non-mirror mode where all external displays show the same content, different from the laptop's display.
For optimal display performance, ensure your laptop's graphics drivers are up to date.
Operating
Data Transfer and Networking:
Utilize the USB 3.0 ports for blazing-fast data transfers up to 5Gbps, ideal for external hard drives and flash drives. The USB 2.0 ports are suitable for connecting keyboards, mice, or charging smaller devices.

Figure 4: High-speed data transfer capabilities.
The Gigabit Ethernet port provides a reliable and high-speed wired network connection, superior to Wi-Fi for stable online activities like gaming or large file downloads.
Power Delivery:
The 100W PD3.0 port allows you to charge your laptop quickly through the docking station. This feature helps shorten charging time significantly. Note that the docking station itself requires power and cannot provide power to your laptop without an external power source connected to its PD port.

Maintenance
To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your UtechSmart docking station, follow these maintenance guidelines:
- Keep the device clean and free from dust. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning.
- Avoid exposing the docking station to extreme temperatures or humidity.
- Do not attempt to disassemble the device. Unauthorized repairs will void the warranty.
- Ensure proper ventilation around the device to prevent overheating, especially during prolonged use with multiple connected peripherals. The aluminum casing is designed to dissipate heat efficiently.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your docking station, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Display Flickering or Freezing | Insufficient power supply; bandwidth limitation. | Ensure a PD charger (more than 8W higher than original charger) is connected. Verify your laptop's USB-C port supports sufficient bandwidth (e.g., Gen 2 or Thunderbolt 3/4). |
| Hard Drives Not Showing Up | Insufficient power for connected devices. | Connect a PD charger to the docking station to provide adequate power for external hard drives. |
| Ethernet Cable Plugged In, No Internet Access | Router DHCP settings; driver issues. | Ensure your router's DHCP settings are correct. Update Ethernet drivers for the docking station. |
| Incompatibility with macOS for Extended Displays | macOS does not support Multi-Stream Transport (MST). | macOS users can only use mirrored mode or non-mirror mode (all external displays show the same content, different from laptop). Extended mode for multiple distinct external displays is not supported. |
