Setup and Installation
Follow these steps for proper installation of your VOLT 150W Slim Line Low Voltage Transformer:
- Choose a Location: Select a suitable location for mounting the transformer. It should be on a sturdy, vertical surface, ideally near a GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) protected outdoor outlet. Ensure the location allows for proper ventilation and is accessible for wiring. The transformer is suitable for indoor or outdoor use.
- Mounting the Transformer:

Figure 4: Example of the transformer mounted on an exterior wall, blending with the landscape.
Use the pre-attached stainless steel wall mounting bracket at the top of the transformer. Secure the transformer to the chosen surface using appropriate screws (not included) through the keyhole slot on the bracket. Ensure it is level and securely fastened.
- Wiring the Low Voltage Cables:
The transformer features clamp-connect terminal blocks for easy wiring. Strip approximately 1/2 inch of insulation from the ends of your low voltage landscape lighting cables (up to 10-gauge wire accepted). Open the transformer door using the latch.
Video 1: This video demonstrates the features and wiring process of the VOLT 150W Slim Line Low Voltage Transformer, including how to use the clamp-connect terminals for secure connections.
Insert one stripped wire end into a "COM" (Common) terminal and the other stripped wire end into either a "12V" or "15V" terminal. The 15V tap can compensate for voltage loss on longer or heavily loaded wire runs. Close the clamp to secure the wire. Repeat for all lighting runs. Ensure all connections are tight and secure.
- Primary Power Connection: Plug the transformer's 5' SJTW lead wire into a GFCI-protected 120V AC outdoor outlet.
Operating Instructions
The VOLT 150W Slim Line Transformer comes with an integrated timer and photocell for automated operation.
Timer/Photocell Operation:
The modular timer/photocell unit is visible through the housing window. It offers several operating modes:
- Dusk-to-Dawn: The lights will automatically turn on at dusk and turn off at dawn.
- Timed Operation (2, 4, 6, 8, 10 hours): The lights will turn on at dusk and remain on for the selected number of hours.
- ON: Lights remain on continuously.
- OFF: Lights remain off continuously.
To set the desired mode, rotate the dial on the timer unit to align the indicator with your chosen setting. The photocell is built into this unit.
Manual ON/OFF Switch:
A manual ON/OFF switch is located inside the transformer housing. This switch allows you to manually override the timer/photocell settings to turn the lights on or off as needed. Ensure the transformer door is closed and latched after making any adjustments.
Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity of your transformer:
- Cleaning: Periodically wipe down the exterior of the transformer with a damp cloth to remove dirt and debris. Do not use abrasive cleaners.
- Inspections: Annually inspect the wiring connections for any signs of wear, corrosion, or damage. Ensure all connections remain tight.
- Ventilation: Ensure the area around the transformer remains clear of obstructions to allow for proper airflow and prevent overheating.
- Photocell: Keep the photocell lens clean and free of obstructions (e.g., leaves, dirt) to ensure accurate dusk/dawn detection.
