4.2 Network Configuration

To configure the EW10, your computer must be on the same local network as the device. You may need to adjust your computer's Ethernet adapter settings temporarily.

  1. Access Device Web Interface: Open a web browser and enter the default IP address of the EW10 (refer to the device's label or documentation for the default IP, commonly 192.168.1.77).
  2. Login: Use the default username and password (e.g., 'admin' for both).
  3. Local IP Configuration: Navigate to the 'Local IP Config' section. If your network uses DHCP, set the IP Type to 'DHCP/AutoIP'. If you require a static IP, select 'Static IP' and enter the IP address, subnet mask, gateway, and DNS server information provided by your network administrator.
  4. Serial Port Configuration (RS232): Go to the 'RS232' or 'RS485' section (depending on your connection type). Configure the serial port parameters (Baud Rate, Data Bit, Parity, Stop Bit, Flow Control) to match your connected serial device.
  5. TCP Client Configuration: In the serial port settings, ensure the 'Work Mode' is set to 'TCP Client'. Enter the 'Remote Server Addr' and 'Local/RemotePort Number' for your cloud platform or target server. For 'Registry Type', select 'MAC As Register'.
  6. Save and Reboot: Save all changes and reboot the module for the settings to take effect.

5. Operating Instructions

Once configured, the Mugast EW10 operates as a transparent data conduit between your RS232 device and the Ethernet network. Data sent from the serial device will be encapsulated and transmitted over TCP/IP to the specified remote server, and vice-versa.

  • Data Transmission: The EW10 automatically handles the conversion of serial data to network packets and vice-versa based on the configured parameters.
  • Monitoring: You can monitor the device status and data flow through the web interface or the connected cloud platform (if configured).
  • Remote Management: Utilize the web interface or cloud platform for remote configuration changes, firmware updates, and device diagnostics.

7. Troubleshooting

  • No Power: Ensure the power adapter is correctly connected and receiving power. Check the power indicator LED on the device.
  • No Network Connection: Verify the Ethernet cable is securely connected to both the EW10 and your network device. Check the Ethernet link/activity LEDs. Ensure your computer's IP settings are compatible with the EW10's network.
  • No Serial Communication: Confirm that the RS232 cable is correctly wired and connected. Double-check the serial port parameters (Baud Rate, Data Bit, Parity, Stop Bit, Flow Control) in the EW10's web interface to ensure they match your serial device.
  • Cannot Access Web Interface: Ensure your computer's IP address is in the same subnet as the EW10. Try resetting the EW10 to factory defaults (refer to the device's reset procedure, often involving a 'Reload' button or pinhole reset).
  • Data Not Reaching Cloud/Server: Verify the 'Remote Server Addr' and 'Local/RemotePort Number' are correctly entered in the TCP Client configuration. Check firewall settings on your network that might block outgoing connections.

8. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Keep the device clean and free from dust. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning. Avoid liquid cleaners.
  • Firmware Updates: Periodically check the manufacturer's website for firmware updates to ensure optimal performance and security. Follow the provided instructions for updating firmware.
  • Environmental Conditions: Operate the device within its specified temperature and humidity ranges to prevent damage.
  • Cable Integrity: Regularly inspect all connected cables for signs of wear or damage. Replace damaged cables immediately.
