Introduction
This manual provides essential information for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of your AFMAT Heavy Duty Electric Pencil Sharpener, Model PS13. This UL Listed sharpener is designed for frequent use in various environments, including classrooms, offices, and homes, capable of sharpening 6.5-8mm No.2 and colored pencils.
Setup Instructions
- Unpacking: Carefully remove the pencil sharpener from its packaging. Ensure all components are present and undamaged.
- Placement: Place the sharpener on a stable, flat surface. The non-skid foot pads at the bottom will help keep it stable during use.
- Power Connection: This AFMAT electric pencil sharpener is corded and operates with a 120V US wall plug. Plug the power cord into a standard 120V AC outlet.
- Shavings Box: Ensure the shavings box is correctly installed and securely closed before operation. The sharpener will not operate if the box is removed or not closed tightly, a built-in safety feature.

Operating Instructions
- Insert Pencil: Gently insert a 6.5-8mm No.2 or colored pencil horizontally into the sharpening hole. The sharpener will automatically begin operation.
- Sharpening: Apply light pressure. The sharpener is designed to create a sharp point quickly, typically within 3-5 seconds.
- Remove Pencil: Once the motor sound changes and the resistance of sharpening decreases, the pencil is sharp. Remove the pencil from the sharpener.
- Pencil Types: This sharpener is suitable for graphite and colored pencils, including brands like Prismacolor Premiers, Derwent, Verithins, Faber-Castell, and Koh-I-Noor Progresso.
- Important Note: It is not recommended to sharpen extra soft core pencils, as this may cause jams in the blade. Avoid pushing the pencil too hard, as this can cause a "hum" noise and prevent proper sharpening.

Maintenance
- Emptying Shavings Box: Regularly check the transparent shavings box. When it appears full, gently pull it out from the front of the sharpener. Dispose of the pencil shavings in a waste bin.
- Reinstall Shavings Box: After emptying, slide the shavings box back into its position until it clicks securely. The sharpener will not operate if the box is not properly installed.
- Cleaning: Periodically wipe the exterior of the sharpener with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or immerse the unit in water.
