Setup and Assembly
Your Blackstone 22" Tabletop Griddle requires minimal assembly. The handle and feet need to be attached. Once assembled, ensure the griddle is placed on a stable, level surface.
Propane Connection
The griddle operates using propane fuel. It is designed to use a 1 lb. propane bottle (not included). For extended use, a 20 lb. propane tank can be connected with the addition of a bulk tank hose adapter accessory (not included).

Initial Seasoning
Before first use, it is crucial to season the griddle surface. This process creates a natural non-stick coating and protects the cast iron from rust. To season:
- Ensure the griddle surface is clean and dry.
- Apply a thin, even layer of high smoke point cooking oil (such as flaxseed, avocado, or grapeseed oil) over the entire griddle surface.
- Heat the griddle on medium-high heat until the oil begins to smoke and burn off, turning the surface dark.
- Allow the griddle to cool slightly, then repeat steps 2-3 several times until a dark, even patina is formed.

Maintenance and Cleaning
Proper maintenance is essential to ensure the longevity and performance of your Blackstone griddle. Always clean the griddle after each use.
Grease Management System
The griddle features an integrated Grease Management System (GMS) with a rear grease trap. This system efficiently collects excess grease and food debris, making cleanup easier.

Cleaning the Griddle Surface
While the griddle is still warm (but not excessively hot), pour a small amount of water onto the surface. Use a griddle scraper to push food debris and grease into the rear grease trap. For stubborn residue, use a heat-proof scrubbing pad. After scraping, wipe the surface clean with paper towels. Once dry, apply a thin layer of cooking oil to re-season and protect the surface until the next use.

Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your griddle, consider the following common troubleshooting steps:
- Ignition Failure: Ensure the propane tank is open and has sufficient fuel. Check that the control knobs are pushed in and turned correctly to activate the igniter. If repeated attempts fail, check for blockages in the gas line or burner ports.
- Uneven Heating: Verify that the griddle is placed on a level surface. Uneven heating can sometimes be caused by wind; consider using a wind guard if cooking in windy conditions. Ensure burner ports are clear of debris.
- Food Sticking: This often indicates insufficient seasoning or improper cleaning. Re-season the griddle surface thoroughly and ensure a thin layer of oil is applied before each cooking session.
