3. Setup

3.1 Preparing the Game

  1. Place all 56 Triominos tiles face down on the playing surface and mix them thoroughly. This forms the "boneyard."
  2. Each player draws a specific number of tiles:
    • 2 players: Draw 9 tiles each.
    • 3-4 players: Draw 7 tiles each.
  3. Place your drawn tiles on your tile rack so that other players cannot see their values.
  4. The player with the highest value "triple" tile (e.g., 5-5-5) starts the game. If no player has a triple, the player with the highest value "double" tile (e.g., 5-5-X) starts. If still no starting tile, players draw one tile at a time from the boneyard until a triple or double is drawn, and that player starts.

4. How to Play (Operating)

4.1 Game Objective

The goal of Triominos is to be the first player to empty your rack of tiles and score the most points by strategically placing tiles that match the numbers on the playing surface.

4.2 Taking a Turn

  1. On your turn, you must place one of your tiles onto the playing surface. The numbers on the side of your tile must exactly match the numbers on the side of an already played tile it connects to.
  2. If you cannot make a valid move, you must draw tiles from the boneyard until you can make a move or until you have drawn three tiles. If you still cannot make a move after drawing three tiles, you pass your turn and lose 10 points.
  3. After placing a tile, you score points based on the numbers on the tile you played.

4.3 Special Moves

  • Bridge: If you complete a "bridge" (a connection where your tile completes a gap between two existing tiles), you score additional points.
  • Hexagon: If you complete a "hexagon" (a six-sided shape formed by six tiles around a central point), you score significant bonus points.
  • Triple: Playing a triple tile (e.g., 4-4-4) earns bonus points.

5. Scoring

Points are awarded for each tile played, based on the sum of the numbers on the tile. Additional points are awarded for special moves:

ActionPoints Awarded
Playing a tileSum of numbers on the tile
Playing a Triple (e.g., 3-3-3)Sum of numbers + 30 bonus points
Completing a BridgeSum of numbers + 40 bonus points
Completing a HexagonSum of numbers + 50 bonus points
Completing a Hexagon with a TripleSum of numbers + 60 bonus points
Emptying your rack (going out)25 bonus points + sum of all numbers on opponents' remaining tiles

The game ends when a player empties their rack or when no more moves can be made by any player. The player with the highest total score wins.

6. Care and Maintenance

To ensure the longevity of your Triominos Deluxe game, please follow these care instructions:

  • Cleaning: Wipe tiles and racks with a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn marks, a slightly damp cloth can be used, but ensure components are completely dry before storing. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Storage: Store all game components in the original triangular box in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Handling: Handle tiles and racks with care to prevent scratches or damage.

7. Troubleshooting

Here are some common questions and their solutions:

  • Q: What if I run out of tiles in the boneyard?
A: If the boneyard is empty and you cannot make a move, you must pass your turn and lose 10 points. The game continues until a player goes out or no one can make a move.
  • Q: Can I play a tile that creates multiple connections?
A: Yes, if a single tile can connect to multiple sides of existing tiles, it is a valid move. You score points for the tile itself and any special formations (bridge, hexagon) it completes.
  • Q: What if a tile is lost or damaged?
A: While individual replacement tiles are not typically available, you may contact Goliath customer support for assistance regarding damaged or missing components.
