OEMTOOLS 24938 9.5L Pneumatic/Manual Fluid Extractor User Manual

Model: 24938

1. Safety Information

Read and understand all instructions before operating this fluid extractor. Failure to follow these instructions may result in property damage or personal injury.

  • Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses and gloves, when operating this tool.
  • Ensure the work area is well-ventilated to avoid inhaling fumes from extracted fluids.
  • Do not use this extractor with flammable liquids such as gasoline or solvents. This tool is designed for low viscosity fluids like engine oil, transmission fluid, coolant, gear oil, and power steering fluid.
  • Dispose of all used fluids responsibly and in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Keep children and bystanders away from the operating area.
  • Do not exceed the maximum capacity of the extractor (9.5 Liters / 2.5 Gallons). The automatic shut-off valve helps prevent overfilling.
  • Ensure all connections are secure before operation to prevent leaks.

2. Product Overview

3. Setup

Before first use, ensure all components are present and undamaged. Assembly is straightforward using the quick-connect adapters.

Assembly Steps:

  1. Attach Suction Hose: Connect the 5-foot suction hose to the main inlet port on the extractor head. Ensure it clicks securely into place.
  2. Select Dipstick Adapter: Choose the appropriate dipstick adapter for your application. The 41-inch extended dipstick hose adapter provides greater reach for deeper fluid reservoirs.
  3. Connect Adapter to Suction Hose: Attach the selected dipstick adapter to the end of the 5-foot suction hose. These are press-fit connections with a threaded cap for easier removal.
  4. Prepare for Operation: Ensure the extractor is placed on a stable, level surface.

4. Operation

The OEMTOOLS 24938 offers both pneumatic (air-powered) and manual operation modes.

4.1. Pneumatic Operation (Using Shop Air)

  1. Connect Air Compressor: Attach a standard air compressor hose (with a Milton M-style quick-connect coupling and 1/4" NPT fitting) to the air inlet on the extractor head. The recommended working pressure is 85 PSI, with a maximum of 120 PSI. Air consumption is approximately 6.5 DFM.
  2. Insert Suction Hose: Carefully insert the dipstick adapter and suction hose into the fluid reservoir (e.g., engine oil dipstick tube) until it reaches the bottom or the desired extraction depth.
  3. Activate Suction: Turn the Venturi valve (air flow control) to the 'ON' position. The extractor will begin to create a vacuum, drawing fluid into the tank.
  4. Monitor Fluid Level: Observe the fluid level through the translucent tank. The automatic shut-off valve will halt suction when the tank reaches its maximum capacity, preventing overfilling.
  5. Disconnect Air: Once extraction is complete or the tank is full, turn the Venturi valve to the 'OFF' position and disconnect the air compressor.

4.2. Manual Operation (Using Hand Pump)

  1. Ensure Air Valve is Closed: Make sure the Venturi valve for pneumatic operation is in the 'OFF' position.
  2. Insert Suction Hose: Carefully insert the dipstick adapter and suction hose into the fluid reservoir until it reaches the bottom or the desired extraction depth.
  3. Pump Handle: Use the oversized pumping handle on top of the extractor to create a vacuum. Pump the handle repeatedly until fluid begins to flow into the tank. Continue pumping as needed to maintain suction.
  4. Monitor Fluid Level: Observe the fluid level through the translucent tank. The automatic shut-off valve will activate when the tank is full.

4.3. Compatible Fluids:

This extractor is suitable for low viscosity fluids including:

  • Engine Oil
  • Transmission Fluid
  • Coolant
  • Gear Oil
  • Power Steering Fluid
  • Brake Fluid
  • Windshield Wash

5. Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and efficient operation of your fluid extractor.

  • Cleaning: After each use, especially when extracting different types of fluids, clean the tank and hoses thoroughly. Flush with a suitable cleaning agent if necessary, then rinse with water and allow to air dry completely.
  • Storage: Store the extractor in a clean, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Ensure hoses are coiled neatly to prevent kinks.
  • Inspect Hoses and Seals: Regularly inspect hoses for cracks, wear, or damage. Check all seals and O-rings for integrity to prevent leaks. Replace any damaged components immediately.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your fluid extractor, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
No suction in pneumatic modeAir compressor not connected or insufficient pressure; Venturi valve closed; Leak in hose connection.Ensure air compressor is connected and providing adequate pressure (85-120 PSI); Open Venturi valve; Check all hose connections for tightness.
No suction in manual modePumping handle not operated correctly; Leak in hose connection.Pump handle firmly and repeatedly; Check all hose connections for tightness.
Fluid not flowingHose not inserted deep enough; Hose kinked or blocked; Fluid too viscous.Re-insert hose to proper depth; Check hose for kinks or blockages; Ensure fluid is low viscosity (warm engine oil for easier extraction).
Extractor overfillsAutomatic shut-off valve malfunction.Stop extraction immediately. Inspect the shut-off valve for obstructions or damage. Contact support if issue persists.
Leaks from connectionsLoose connections; Damaged O-rings or seals.Tighten all connections; Inspect and replace any damaged O-rings or seals.
