3. Setup Instructions

- Position Cover: Place the transparent cover onto the outer vessel. The cover should fit securely, with the heating coil terminals extending downwards into the inner vessel.
- Insert Stirrer: Insert the provided stirrer through one of the designated holes in the transparent cover. Ensure it can move freely to stir the contents of the inner vessel.
- Insert Thermometer: Insert a suitable thermometer (not included) through the second hole in the transparent cover. Position the thermometer bulb to be immersed in the substance within the inner vessel without touching the bottom or sides.
- Connect Power Supply: Connect the terminals of the 5-watt heating coil to a 6V 1A DC power supply (not included) using appropriate electrical leads. Ensure connections are secure before applying power.

4. Operating Instructions
Follow these steps for a typical calorimetry experiment:
- Prepare Sample: Place the substance (e.g., water) into the 250mL inner aluminum vessel. Ensure the volume is appropriate for your experiment and allows for proper immersion of the thermometer and stirrer.
- Initial Temperature Reading: Allow the system to equilibrate for a few minutes. Record the initial temperature (Tinitial) of the substance using the thermometer.
- Apply Heat: Turn on the 6V 1A power supply to activate the 5-watt heating coil. Simultaneously, start a timer.
- Stir Continuously: Gently and continuously stir the contents of the inner vessel using the stirrer throughout the heating period to ensure uniform heat distribution.
- Monitor Temperature: Observe the temperature rise. After a predetermined time interval (e.g., 5-10 minutes) or when a desired temperature is reached, turn off the power supply and stop the timer.
- Final Temperature Reading: Continue stirring for a short period (e.g., 30 seconds) to ensure the heat is fully distributed, then record the final maximum temperature (Tfinal).
- Calculations: Use the recorded temperature change, mass of the substance, and specific heat capacity to calculate the heat absorbed. The energy supplied by the heating coil can be calculated using the power (5W) and the duration of heating.
5. Maintenance
Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and accuracy of your calorimeter.
- Cleaning: After each use, disassemble the calorimeter and wipe all components clean with a soft, damp cloth. Ensure all parts are thoroughly dried before storage to prevent corrosion, especially the aluminum vessels. The product is designed for easy cleaning.
- Storage: Store the calorimeter in a clean, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- Heating Coil Replacement: The 5-watt heating coil is designed to be easily replaceable. If the heating coil ceases to function, disconnect the power supply, carefully remove the transparent cover, and replace the coil by unscrewing the terminals.
