2. Setup Guide
2.1 Power Supply
The DR-07X operates on two AA batteries (included) or can be powered via a USB mobile battery or a USB connection to a computer. For extended recording sessions, USB power is recommended.
- Battery Installation: Open the battery compartment cover on the back of the unit and insert two AA batteries, observing the correct polarity.
- USB Power: Connect the unit to a USB power source using a compatible USB cable.
2.2 Memory Card Installation
The DR-07X records to a microSD card. A card is not typically included and must be purchased separately. Ensure the card is formatted correctly before use.
- Locate the microSD card slot on the side of the unit.
- Insert the microSD card until it clicks into place.
- To remove, push the card gently until it springs out.
- Formatting: It is recommended to format the memory card using the DR-07X unit itself for optimal compatibility. If formatting on a PC, ensure it is formatted to FAT32 for cards up to 32GB, or exFAT for cards larger than 32GB.
2.3 Microphone Configuration
The DR-07X features adjustable unidirectional microphones that can be set in two primary stereo configurations: A-B and X-Y.

Figure 2.1: Illustration of A-B and X-Y stereo microphone positions.
- A-B Position: For a wider stereo image, suitable for capturing a broader soundscape. The microphones are spread further apart.
- X-Y Position: For a tighter, more focused stereo field with less phase difference, ideal for precise sound source localization. The microphones are angled closer together.
- Adjust the microphone capsules by gently rotating them to achieve the desired configuration.
3. Operation
