1. Product Overview

The Wagner Electro-Torch C900085 is an electric fire starter designed to ignite charcoal, wood-burning fireplaces, campfires, and fire pits using super-heated air. This chemical-free method eliminates the need for matches or starter fluids, providing a clean and efficient way to start fires.

It features a dual ignition switch for precise control over the heating and fanning processes, allowing for rapid ignition and flame development.

2. Safety Information

Please read and understand all safety instructions before operating the Electro-Torch. Failure to follow these instructions may result in electric shock, fire, and/or serious injury.

  • For Outdoor Use Only: When lighting charcoal or wood outdoors, ensure adequate ventilation.
  • Indoor Use: When lighting wood in a fireplace or wood stove, ensure the chimney or flue is open and functioning correctly to prevent smoke and carbon monoxide buildup.
  • Keep Away from Flammable Materials: Do not use near gasoline, paint thinners, or other highly flammable liquids or gases.
  • Hot Air: The Electro-Torch produces air up to 1500°F (815°C). Do not touch the metal barrel during or immediately after use. Allow the unit to cool completely before handling or storing.
  • Electrical Safety:
    • Always connect to a grounded outlet.
    • Do not operate with a damaged cord or plug.
    • Keep the power cord away from hot surfaces, sharp edges, and moving parts.
    • Do not expose to rain or wet conditions.
  • Thermal Protection: The unit is equipped with an automatic thermal switch. If the unit reaches an excessively high temperature, it will shut off. Allow approximately 15-20 minutes for the unit to cool down before attempting to restart.
  • Children and Pets: Keep the Electro-Torch out of reach of children and pets. Never leave the unit unattended while in operation.

3. Setup

The Wagner Electro-Torch C900085 requires minimal setup before use.

  1. Unpack: Carefully remove the Electro-Torch from its packaging. Retain packaging for future storage or transport.
  2. Inspect: Check the unit for any visible damage, especially the power cord and the metal barrel. Do not use if damaged.
  3. Power Connection: Ensure the power cord is fully extended and plug it into a standard grounded electrical outlet. The unit operates on standard household current.

4. Operating Instructions

The Electro-Torch is designed for quick and efficient fire starting.

4.1 Lighting Charcoal

  1. Prepare Charcoal: Arrange your charcoal briquettes or lump charcoal in a pile or pyramid in your grill or smoker.
  2. Initial Ignition (Position 1): Hold the Electro-Torch with the metal barrel approximately 2-3 inches away from the charcoal. Press and hold the dual ignition switch to Position 1. This position generates super-heated air (up to 1500°F) to ignite the charcoal. You will see sparks and glowing embers within 30-60 seconds.
  3. Fan the Flames (Position 2): Once embers are visible, switch to Position 2 while maintaining distance. This position produces high-velocity airflow to fan the flames and spread the heat. Continue fanning until the charcoal is fully ignited and covered in a light ash, typically within 2-3 minutes.
  4. Remove and Cool: Release the switch to turn off the unit. Carefully place the Electro-Torch on a heat-resistant surface or hang it using its integrated hook. Allow the unit to cool completely before storing.

4.2 Lighting Wood (Fireplaces, Campfires, Fire Pits)

  1. Prepare Wood: Arrange kindling and logs in your fireplace, campfire, or fire pit.
  2. Ignition: Point the metal barrel of the Electro-Torch at the kindling or a small log. Press and hold the dual ignition switch to Position 1. Maintain a safe distance while directing the hot air.
  3. Fan the Fire: Once the wood begins to smoke and ignite, switch to Position 2 to increase airflow and help the fire grow. Continue until a sustained flame is achieved.
  4. Re-igniting: If your fire or charcoal starts to burn down, add more wood or charcoal and use the Electro-Torch (Position 2 for fanning) to get it roaring again.

6. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Unit does not turn on.Not plugged in; power outlet issue; thermal protection activated.Ensure unit is securely plugged into a working outlet. If recently used, allow 15-20 minutes for thermal protection to reset.
Unit turns off during use.Thermal protection activated due to overheating. This is a safety feature. Unplug the unit and allow it to cool down for approximately 15-20 minutes before resuming use. Ensure proper airflow around the unit during operation.
Slow ignition.Insufficient contact with fuel; dense fuel type.Ensure the metal barrel is close enough to the charcoal/wood. For dense lump charcoal, more time may be required in Position 1 before switching to Position 2.
