Setup and Installation

The Add-a-Circuit Fuse Holder allows for easy and quick installation of new electrical accessories without cutting or splicing into existing wiring. Follow these steps for proper installation:

  1. Disconnect Power Source: Before beginning any electrical work, ensure the vehicle's battery is disconnected to prevent accidental short circuits or electrical shocks.
  2. Identify Fuse Box: Locate your vehicle's fuse box, typically found under the hood, in the dashboard, or in the trunk. Consult your vehicle's owner's manual for the exact location.
  3. Select a Circuit: Choose an existing circuit in the fuse box that you wish to tap into. This circuit should have an appropriate amperage rating for both the original device and your new accessory.
  4. Remove Original Fuse: Using the included fuse puller, carefully remove the existing fuse from the selected slot in the fuse box.
  5. Insert Fuses into Add-a-Circuit Holder:
    • Insert the original fuse (the one you just removed) into the bottom slot of the Add-a-Circuit fuse holder. This slot protects the original circuit.
    • Insert a new fuse (from the provided mini blade fuses, matching the amperage required by your new accessory) into the top slot of the Add-a-Circuit fuse holder. This slot protects the new accessory.
  6. Connect New Accessory Wire: Connect the positive (live) wire of your new electrical accessory to the insulated coupler butt connector on the red wire lead of the Add-a-Circuit fuse holder. Ensure a secure connection.
  7. Install Add-a-Circuit Holder: Insert the Add-a-Circuit fuse holder, with both fuses installed, firmly into the empty fuse slot in your vehicle's fuse box.
  8. Reconnect Power and Test: Reconnect the vehicle's battery. Turn on the ignition and test the newly installed accessory for proper operation.
  9. Troubleshooting (If Accessory Does Not Operate): If the accessory does not function, turn the Add-a-Circuit fuse holder 180 degrees and reinsert it into the fuse block. Retest again. This ensures correct polarity.

Operating Principles

The QitinDasen Add-a-Circuit Fuse Holder operates by converting a single fuse slot into two. This design allows for the protection of two separate circuits from one original power source. The bottom fuse slot maintains the integrity and protection of the vehicle's original circuit, while the top fuse slot provides dedicated overcurrent protection for the newly added accessory. This ensures that if the new accessory experiences a fault, only its fuse will blow, leaving the original circuit unaffected.

Maintenance

The Add-a-Circuit Fuse Holders are designed for durability and require minimal maintenance. However, periodic checks are recommended:

  • Fuse Inspection: If an accessory stops working, first check the fuse in the top slot of the Add-a-Circuit holder. If it is blown, replace it with a fuse of the same amperage rating.
  • Connection Integrity: Periodically inspect the connections to ensure they remain secure and free from corrosion.
  • Environmental Factors: While designed for automotive environments, avoid exposing the fuse holders to excessive moisture or extreme temperatures beyond typical vehicle operating conditions.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your newly installed accessory or the Add-a-Circuit Fuse Holder, consider the following troubleshooting steps:

  • Accessory Not Functioning:
    • Verify that the vehicle's battery is properly connected and charged.
    • Check both fuses in the Add-a-Circuit holder. Replace any blown fuses with the correct amperage.
    • Ensure the Add-a-Circuit holder is fully seated in the fuse box slot.
    • If the accessory still does not work, remove the Add-a-Circuit holder, rotate it 180 degrees, and reinsert it. Some fuse boxes are sensitive to polarity.
    • Confirm that the accessory's wiring is correctly connected to the Add-a-Circuit holder's wire lead.
  • Frequent Fuse Blowing:
    • This indicates an overcurrent condition. Ensure the fuse amperage rating matches the accessory's requirements. Do not use a higher amperage fuse than recommended.
    • Inspect the accessory's wiring for any shorts or damage that could cause excessive current draw.
    • Verify that the accessory itself is not faulty.
  • Loose Connection: If the Add-a-Circuit holder feels loose in the fuse box, ensure it is fully pushed in. The design is slightly larger than standard fuses to ensure a snug fit.
