4. Setup

4.1 Power Connection

Connect the power adapter to the DC 6V input jack on the machine and plug it into a wall outlet. Alternatively, the machine can be powered by 4 AA batteries (not included) for portable use. Ensure the machine is switched off before connecting or disconnecting power.

4.2 Winding the Bobbin

  1. Place an empty bobbin onto the bobbin winder spindle.
  2. Place a spool of thread on the spool pin.
  3. Guide the thread through the bobbin winder tension disc.
  4. Wrap the thread around the bobbin a few times, then push the bobbin winder spindle to the right.
  5. Turn on the machine to start winding. Stop when the bobbin is full and push the spindle back to the left.

4.3 Inserting the Bobbin and Retrieving Lower Thread

  1. Open the bobbin cover and insert the wound bobbin into the bobbin holder, ensuring the thread unwinds counter-clockwise.
  2. Hold the end of the upper thread and slowly turn the handwheel counter-clockwise to lower the needle.
  3. Continue turning the handwheel until the needle rises, bringing up a loop of the lower thread.
  4. Pull on the upper thread to draw up the lower thread loop.
  5. Pull both threads (upper and lower) about 10 cm (4 inches) towards the back of the machine, under the presser foot.

4.4 Threading the Upper Thread

  1. Place a spool of thread on the spool pin.
  2. Guide the thread through the first thread guide.
  3. Pass the thread down through the tension assembly.
  4. Bring the thread up and through the take-up lever from right to left.
  5. Guide the thread down through the needle bar thread guide.
  6. Finally, thread the needle from front to back.

5.1 Stitch Pattern Selection

The FHSM-700 offers 16 pre-programmed stitch patterns. To select a stitch, turn the Pattern Selection Dial to the desired number. Refer to the stitch chart on the machine body for visual reference of each pattern.

Use the Power Off & Speed Switch to select your desired sewing speed: 'L' for low speed or 'H' for high speed. For beginners or intricate work, start with the low speed setting.

To reinforce the beginning and end of a seam, press and hold the Reverse Button while sewing. Release the button to resume forward sewing.

This machine is capable of sewing various fabric types, including thicker materials like denim, thanks to its powerful motor. Always test on a scrap piece of fabric first to ensure proper tension and stitch quality.
