2.2 Button Functions

The Bontrager Ridetime computer features a single button for operation, located at the bottom of the unit.

  • Short Press: Cycles through various display modes (e.g., current speed, average speed, maximum speed, trip distance, total distance, timer).
  • Long Press: Resets trip data (trip distance, average speed, maximum speed, timer). Hold the button until the values reset to zero.

2.3 Initial Setup and Wheel Size

Before your first ride, ensure the correct wheel size is set for accurate speed and distance readings. Refer to the instructions that came with your computer for specific steps on entering wheel circumference, as this may vary by production batch. Typically, this involves a sequence of button presses during initial power-on or after a reset.

3. Maintenance

Proper care ensures the longevity and accuracy of your bike computer.

3.1 Cleaning

Wipe the computer and sensor with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents, as these can damage the display or casing. The unit has an IP54 international protection rating, meaning it is protected from dust ingress and splashing water from any direction. Avoid submerging the unit in water.

3.2 Battery Replacement

The speed sensor uses a CR2032 coin cell battery. When the sensor's signal becomes intermittent or stops, it may be time to replace the battery.

  1. Locate the battery compartment on the speed sensor.
  2. Use a small coin or screwdriver to open the battery cover.
  3. Remove the old CR2032 battery and insert a new one, ensuring correct polarity (+ side up).
  4. Securely close the battery cover.

The main computer unit typically has a long-lasting internal battery or a user-replaceable battery. Refer to the original packaging or manufacturer's website for specific instructions on replacing the main unit's battery if needed.

4. Troubleshooting

Common issues and their solutions.

4.1 No Speed Reading or Intermittent Data

  • Check Sensor-Magnet Alignment: Ensure the spoke magnet passes within 5mm of the speed sensor. Adjust their positions if necessary.
  • Sensor Battery: Replace the CR2032 battery in the speed sensor.
  • Sensor Orientation: Verify the sensor is mounted correctly on the fork with its alignment mark facing the magnet.

4.2 Incorrect Speed or Distance Readings

  • Wheel Size Setting: Confirm that the correct wheel circumference is programmed into the computer. An incorrect setting will lead to inaccurate data.
  • Magnet Position: Ensure the magnet is securely fastened and not slipping on the spoke.

4.3 Display Not Working

  • Main Unit Battery: If the main unit uses a replaceable battery, check and replace it if necessary.
  • Reset: Try performing a full reset of the computer (refer to operating instructions for long press function, or look for a small reset button on the back).
