Setup

Before playing your DooD 2.0, ensure the reed is correctly positioned on the mouthpiece. The DooD 2.0 comes with two synthetic reeds; it is recommended to start with the softer reed (marked '1') as it is easier to blow for beginners.

  1. Carefully slide the reed under the ligature on the mouthpiece.
  2. Align the tip of the reed with the tip of the mouthpiece.
  3. Tighten the ligature screws to secure the reed, ensuring it is not too tight to restrict vibration.

Operating Instructions

Playing the DooD

Proper embouchure (mouth shape) is crucial for producing a clear sound on the DooD 2.0. Follow these steps:

  1. Place your top teeth onto the beak of the mouthpiece, approximately 1 cm from the end.
  2. Roll your bottom lip slightly over your bottom teeth.
  3. Bring the corners of your mouth in tight against the sides of the mouthpiece, creating a seal.
  4. Take a breath and focus the air down the mouthpiece to make the reed vibrate.

The silicone keys are designed to make covering the tone holes easier for small fingers. Refer to the included fingering chart for specific notes.

Holding the DooD

To hold the DooD 2.0 correctly, place your right thumb under the adjustable thumb hook on the back of the instrument. Your left thumb will cover the thumb hole on the back.

Basic Notes (B, A, G)

  • Note B: Cover the thumb hole with your left thumb and press down on the first silicone key with your left index finger.
  • Note A: Keep the B key pressed and press down on the next silicone key with your left middle finger.

Maintenance

The Nuvo DooD 2.0 is designed for easy maintenance due to its waterproof construction.

  • Cleaning: The entire instrument can be washed with warm, soapy water. Ensure all parts are thoroughly rinsed and dried before reassembly.
  • Reed Care: Synthetic reeds are durable but should be handled with care. After playing, gently wipe the reed clean and store it in its protective case to prevent damage.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues while playing your DooD 2.0, consider the following common problems and solutions:

  • No Sound or Squeaky Sound:
    • Embouchure: Ensure your mouth is forming a tight seal around the mouthpiece and your bottom lip is correctly positioned over your bottom teeth.
    • Reed Position: Check that the reed is properly aligned with the mouthpiece tip and the ligature is secure.
    • Airflow: Make sure you are blowing a steady stream of air directly down the mouthpiece to make the reed vibrate.
  • Loud, Uncontrolled Sound:
    • Mouthpiece Depth: You might have too much of the mouthpiece in your mouth. Try sliding it out slightly.
    • Air Pressure: Reduce the force of your breath. Experiment with softer airflow.
  • Notes Not Clear:
    • Finger Coverage: Ensure all silicone keys for the desired note are fully pressed down, creating a complete seal over the tone holes.
    • Fingering Chart: Double-check your fingering against the provided chart.
