3. Setup and Installation
The SARTODOORS Planum 2102 door is supplied with all necessary components for installation. The door is not pre-attached to the frame, allowing flexibility in choosing the swing direction during installation. Assembly of frames and trims is required.
3.1. Required Tools (Not Included)
- Measuring tape
- Level
- Drill
- Screwdriver
- Saw (if trimming is needed)
- Wood shims
- Construction adhesive or wood glue (for frame assembly)
3.2. Preparing the Rough Opening
Ensure your rough opening dimensions are appropriate for the door. For a 36" x 80" door, the recommended minimal rough opening is 38" wide by 81 1/2" high. This allows for proper clearance and adjustment.

3.3. Frame Assembly
- Unpack all frame components (parts 'a' and 'b' as shown in Image 3.2).
- Connect the vertical frame pieces ('a') to the horizontal header piece ('b') to form the door frame. Use appropriate fasteners and adhesive for a secure connection.
- Ensure the frame is square and level before proceeding.

3.4. Installing the Door Slab and Hardware
- Position the assembled frame into the rough opening. Use shims to ensure the frame is plumb, level, and square. Secure the frame to the wall studs.
- Attach the non-mortise butterfly hinges to the door slab and the door frame. These hinges do not require routing out slots for installation.
- Hang the door slab onto the hinges. Check for proper swing and clearance.
- Drill the necessary holes for the passage lever/knob into the door slab according to the hardware manufacturer's instructions. Install the lever/knob.
- Install the trims around the door frame to finish the installation.

4. Operation
The SARTODOORS Planum 2102 door operates as a standard hinged interior door. To open, turn the passage lever/knob and pull or push the door. To close, gently push the door until it latches. The frosted glass provides privacy while allowing light to pass through.
5. Maintenance
To ensure the longevity and appearance of your SARTODOORS Planum 2102 door, follow these maintenance guidelines:
- Cleaning the Door Slab: Wipe the eco-veneer smooth coating with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals, as these can damage the finish.
- Cleaning the Frosted Glass: Use a standard glass cleaner and a soft cloth. Do not spray cleaner directly onto the glass; apply it to the cloth first to prevent drips from affecting the door finish.
- Hardware Maintenance: Periodically check the tightness of all screws on hinges and the door handle. Lubricate hinges with a silicone-based spray if they begin to squeak.
- General Inspection: Regularly inspect the door and frame for any signs of wear, damage, or loose components. Address any issues promptly to prevent further problems.
6. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Door does not close properly or rubs against the frame. | Frame is not plumb or square; hinges are loose or misaligned. | Check frame for plumb and square using a level. Adjust shims as needed. Tighten hinge screws. If necessary, re-position hinges. |
| Door handle is loose or difficult to operate. | Mounting screws are loose; internal mechanism requires lubrication. | Tighten all visible screws on the handle assembly. Apply a small amount of lubricant to the moving parts of the handle mechanism. |
| Hinges squeak. | Lack of lubrication. | Apply a silicone-based lubricant to the hinge pins. |
| Frosted glass appears cloudy or stained. | Residue from cleaning products or environmental factors. | Clean with a dedicated glass cleaner and a microfiber cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals. |
