1. Introduction

The Midland G7 PRO is a versatile two-way radio designed for reliable communication in various outdoor and recreational activities such as hiking, airsoft, climbing, and hunting. It operates on both PMR446 and LPD frequencies, offering a wide range of channels and extended battery life for demanding use. This manual provides essential instructions for setting up, operating, and maintaining your G7 PRO walkie talkie.

4. Setup

4.1. Battery Installation

  1. Ensure the radio is turned off.
  2. Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the radio.
  3. Slide or unlatch the cover to open the compartment.
  4. Insert the four (4) AA Ni-MH 1800mAh rechargeable batteries, observing the correct polarity (+/-) as indicated inside the compartment.
  5. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

4.2. Charging the Batteries

Use the provided wall charger to recharge the Ni-MH batteries:

  1. Connect the wall charger to a standard electrical outlet.
  2. Plug the charger's connector into the SPK/MIC/CHG port on the side of the radio.
  3. The radio's display or an indicator light will show the charging status.
  4. Allow sufficient time for a full charge (refer to specifications for typical charging times).

Note: The Midland G7 PRO offers up to 18 hours of battery life with the included 1800mAh NiMH batteries. It is also compatible with alkaline batteries or optional 1200mAh lithium batteries (sold separately).

4.3. Attaching the Belt Clip

  1. Align the belt clip with the designated slots on the back of the radio.
  2. Slide the clip downwards until it locks securely into place.
  3. To remove, lift the tab on the belt clip and slide it upwards.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Powering On/Off and Volume Adjustment

  1. To turn the radio ON, rotate the Volume/Power knob clockwise until you hear a click and the display illuminates.
  2. To turn the radio OFF, rotate the Volume/Power knob counter-clockwise until you hear a click and the display turns off.
  3. Adjust the volume by rotating the Volume/Power knob clockwise to increase and counter-clockwise to decrease.

5.2. Channel Selection

The G7 PRO supports 16 PMR446 channels and 69 LPD channels.

  1. Press the MENU button once to enter channel selection mode. The channel number on the display will flash.
  2. Use the Up or Down arrow buttons to select your desired channel.
  3. Press the MENU button again or wait a few seconds for the selection to be confirmed.

5.3. Transmitting and Receiving

  1. To Transmit: Press and hold the PTT button. Speak clearly into the microphone. Release the PTT button to stop transmitting.
  2. To Receive: Ensure the PTT button is not pressed. The radio will automatically receive signals on the selected channel.
  3. Dual PTT Function: The G7 PRO features a dual PTT button. The upper part activates high power transmission, while the lower part activates low power transmission. Use low power to conserve battery life when communicating over shorter distances.

5.4. Side Tone Function

The "Side Tone" function eliminates the annoying static noise often heard at the end of transmissions. This feature is automatically active, providing clearer communication.

5.5. CALL Button

Press the CALL button to send an audible call tone to other radios on the same channel, alerting them to your presence.

If you encounter issues with your Midland G7 PRO, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
