1. Product Overview
The Nuvo Clarinéo is a fully functional clarinet pitched in the key of C, designed for young beginners aged 4 to 9 years. Its lightweight and compact design makes it easier for smaller hands to manage, reducing the physical challenges often associated with a traditional Bb clarinet. This instrument allows for a smooth transition to a Bb clarinet later, as the fingering system is consistent. The Clarinéo offers a full chromatic range of 3 1/2 octaves, similar to a traditional clarinet.
Key Features:
- Clarinet in Key of C with Two NUVO Synthetic Reeds
- Easy-action Ligature - Black
- Adjustable Thumb Rest
- Cane Reed included

2. Setup and Assembly
Proper assembly is crucial for the instrument's functionality and longevity. Always handle the Clarinéo with care, avoiding excessive force.
Assembly Steps:
- Prepare the Corks: If the corks on the tenons (connecting joints) feel dry or tight, apply a small amount of cork grease (not included) to ensure a smooth fit and prevent damage.
- Attach the Bell: Gently twist the bell onto the lower joint of the clarinet. Ensure it is securely attached but do not overtighten.
- Connect the Joints: Align the upper and lower joints. Carefully twist them together, ensuring the bridge keys (small levers that connect the two sections) align without bending. It is recommended to press down on the lower joint's bridge key while connecting to prevent damage.
- Attach the Mouthpiece: Slide the mouthpiece onto the corked end of the upper joint. The ligature should be loosened to allow the reed to be inserted.
- Insert the Reed: Carefully slide one of the provided synthetic reeds under the ligature, aligning it with the tip of the mouthpiece. Tighten the ligature screws just enough to hold the reed firmly in place without crushing it. A cane reed is also included for alternative sound characteristics.

3. Operating Instructions
The Nuvo Clarinéo is designed for ease of play, making it an excellent instrument for learning clarinet fundamentals.
Playing the Clarinéo:
- Embouchure: Form a firm but relaxed embouchure around the mouthpiece. The lower lip should be slightly over the lower teeth, supporting the reed.
- Breathing: Use diaphragmatic breathing to produce a steady and controlled airflow.
- Fingering: The Clarinéo uses standard clarinet fingering. Refer to a clarinet fingering chart for specific notes. The smaller size and shorter finger stretches are beneficial for young players.
- Tone Production: Experiment with breath support and embouchure to produce a clear, consistent tone across the instrument's range.

4. Maintenance and Care
Regular maintenance ensures your Nuvo Clarinéo remains in optimal playing condition. The instrument's durable plastic construction makes it easy to clean.
Cleaning Instructions:
- Disassembly: Carefully disassemble the Clarinéo after each use. Remove the reed, mouthpiece, barrel, upper joint, lower joint, and bell.
- Swabbing: Use a clarinet swab (not included) to remove moisture from the inside of each section. Pass the swab through each piece several times until dry.
- Washing (Periodically): The Nuvo Clarinéo is 100% washable. For a thorough cleaning, you can wash the disassembled parts in warm, soapy water. Use a mild dish soap. Rinse all parts thoroughly with clean water to remove any soap residue.
- Drying: Allow all parts to air dry completely before reassembling or storing. Ensure no water remains in the tone holes or key mechanisms.
- Key Pads: Gently blot any moisture from under the key pads using lint-free paper. Avoid touching the pads with your fingers, as oils can degrade them.
- Corks: Periodically check the tenon corks. If they appear dry, apply a small amount of cork grease to keep them supple and prevent sticking or tearing.
- Storage: Store the Clarinéo in its case when not in use to protect it from dust and physical damage.
5. Troubleshooting
Here are some common issues and their solutions:
- Difficulty Producing Sound:
- Check reed placement and tightness of the ligature.
- Ensure proper embouchure and sufficient, steady airflow.
- Verify all tone holes are completely covered by fingers or pads.
- Squeaking Sound:
- Often caused by incorrect embouchure or insufficient air support.
- Reed might be too hard or too soft for the player.
- Leaking pads or improperly covered tone holes can also cause squeaks.
- Keys Sticking:
- Moisture or residue on pads can cause sticking. Clean pads gently with lint-free paper.
- Ensure the instrument is thoroughly dried after each use.
- Joints Difficult to Assemble/Disassemble:
- Apply cork grease to the tenon corks.
- Ensure bridge keys are aligned and not catching.
