Introduction

This manual provides essential instructions for the safe and efficient operation of your West Bend QuikServe 2-Slice Toaster. Please read all instructions carefully before first use and retain for future reference.

Important Safeguards

When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed, including the following:

  1. Read all instructions.
  2. Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handles or knobs.

  14. A fire may occur if toasters are covered or touching flammable material, including curtains, draperies, walls, and the like, when in operation.
  15. Do not attempt to dislodge food when toaster is plugged in.
  16. Do not operate the toaster unattended.
  17. OPERATION NOTICE: The serving tray must be in the open/down position for the toaster to operate.

Setup

  1. Unpack: Carefully remove the toaster and all packaging materials.
  2. Placement: Place the toaster on a stable, heat-resistant surface, away from flammable materials. Ensure adequate ventilation around the appliance.
  3. First Use: Before toasting food for the first time, operate the toaster empty on the highest setting (7) to burn off any manufacturing residues. A slight odor or smoke may be present; this is normal. Allow the toaster to cool completely.
  4. Serving Tray: Ensure the removable serving tray is properly installed and in the open/down position before operation.

Operating Instructions

Follow these steps to toast your bread, bagels, or waffles:

  1. Prepare Food: Insert up to two slices of bread, bagels, or waffles into the wide slots at the top of the toaster.
  2. Select Browning Level: Turn the browning control dial on the front of the toaster to your desired shade setting (1 for lightest, 7 for darkest).

  3. Lower Lever: Push the toast lever down until it locks into place. The indicator light for the selected setting will illuminate.
  4. Specialty Settings:
    • Bagel: Press the 'BAGEL' button after lowering the lever. This will toast only the cut side of the bagel.

    • Gluten-Free: Press the 'GLUTEN FREE' button after lowering the lever. This setting uses a longer, lower power cycle for gluten-free breads.

  5. Toasting Cycle: The toaster will automatically lower the bread and begin toasting. Once the cycle is complete, the toast will slide out onto the serving tray.
  6. Cancel: To stop the toasting cycle at any time, press the 'CANCEL' button.

Maintenance and Cleaning

Regular cleaning ensures optimal performance and longevity of your toaster.

  1. Unplug and Cool: Always unplug the toaster from the power outlet and allow it to cool completely before cleaning.
  2. Clean Crumb Tray: The removable serving tray also functions as the crumb tray. Slide it out from the bottom of the toaster, discard crumbs, and wash the tray with warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry completely before reinserting. Ensure the tray is securely in place before next use.

  3. Exterior Cleaning: Wipe the exterior of the toaster with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or metal scouring pads.
  4. Interior Cleaning: Do not attempt to clean the interior of the toaster with any tools or objects. If food becomes lodged, unplug the toaster and carefully remove it once cooled.

Troubleshooting
