Setup and Installation

The Emtek Select Privacy Door Lever is designed for easy installation. This model is specifically for Left Hand (LH) doors. Ensure your door's handing matches this requirement.

Tools Required:

  • Phillips Head Screwdriver
  • Measuring Tape
  • Pencil
  • Drill (if new holes are required)

Installation Steps:

  1. Prepare the Door: Ensure the door is prepped with standard bore holes (typically 2-1/8 inch cross bore and 1 inch edge bore) and a backset of 2-3/8 inches or 2-3/4 inches.
  2. Install the Latch Mechanism: Insert the latch mechanism into the edge bore hole of the door. Secure it with the provided screws. Ensure the bevel of the latch bolt faces the door frame.
  3. Install Exterior Lever: Place the exterior lever assembly through the cross bore hole, ensuring the spindle receiver aligns with the latch mechanism.
  4. Install Interior Lever: Slide the spindle through the latch mechanism and into the exterior lever's receiver. Position the interior lever assembly over the spindle and align the mounting posts.
  5. Secure the Levers: Using the provided mounting screws, attach the interior and exterior lever assemblies together. Tighten screws evenly until snug, but do not overtighten.
  6. Test Operation: Before closing the door, test the lever action and privacy function to ensure smooth operation.
  7. Install Strike Plate: Mark and chisel out the door frame for the strike plate. Secure the strike plate with screws, ensuring the latch bolt engages smoothly.

Operating Instructions

Standard Operation:

To open the door from either side, simply depress the lever handle. The latch bolt will retract, allowing the door to open.

Privacy Function (Trim Lock):

  • To Lock: From the interior side of the door, locate the privacy button or turn-piece on the rosette. Engage it to lock the exterior lever, preventing entry from the outside.
  • To Unlock: From the interior, disengage the privacy button or turn-piece. The exterior lever will now operate freely.
  • Emergency Release: In case of an emergency or accidental lockout, an emergency release hole is located on the exterior rosette. Insert the provided privacy pin/emergency release tool into this hole and push firmly to unlock the door.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Clean the lever and rosette surfaces with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners, solvents, or harsh chemicals, as these can damage the finish.
  • Lubrication: Periodically, a small amount of graphite-based lubricant can be applied to the latch mechanism to ensure smooth operation. Do not use oil-based lubricants, as they can attract dust and grime.
  • Tightening: Check mounting screws periodically and tighten if necessary to prevent wobbling or loose operation. Do not overtighten.

Troubleshooting

Problem: Lever is stiff or difficult to turn.
Solution: Check for proper alignment of the spindle and latch mechanism. Apply a small amount of graphite lubricant to the latch bolt. Ensure mounting screws are not overtightened.
Problem: Privacy function does not engage or disengage.
Solution: Verify that the privacy mechanism components are correctly installed and aligned. Ensure no debris is obstructing the privacy button or turn-piece. If the issue persists, re-check the installation steps.
Problem: Door does not latch properly.
Solution: Inspect the strike plate and latch bolt for obstructions or misalignment. Adjust the strike plate position if necessary to ensure the latch bolt fully extends into the strike plate opening.
