3. Repair Procedures

3.1. Loader Removal and Front Section Split

This section details the procedure for removing the loader and splitting the front section of the tractor. Proper execution of these steps is crucial for accessing internal components for service.

  • Loader Removal: If the tractor is equipped with a protective frame, it must be removed first. Disconnect pressure and return lines at the bottom of the loader control valve. Support the loader using a hoist and two FES 138-1 slings. Remove the front and rear mounting bolts and remove the loader.
  • Front Section Split: For 74 and 84 Series tractors equipped with a loader and/or ROPS, remove them first. Shut off the fuel supply at the fuel tank. Remove the muffler and disconnect at the exhaust manifold. Disconnect and remove the battery. Disconnect the tachometer cable from the tachometer and move it forward. For diesel models, disconnect the fuel inlet line at the fuel filter. For gas models, disconnect the fuel line at the fuel pump on the left side of the engine.

3.2. Rear Section Split

This procedure outlines how to split the rear section of the tractor, often necessary for transmission or rear axle service.

  • Position a hydraulic jack on the splitting frame to support the rear of the center section. Place a second hydraulic jack on the floor between the beams of the splitting frame to support the front of the rear frame.
  • Remove all capscrews securing the center section to the rear section and roll the center section away from the rear section.
  • Shut off fuel at the fuel tank and close over valves. Remove the lower cross over tube, overflow tube, and disconnect necessary fuel lines.
  • Remove the left and right covers and housing cover.
  • Disconnect necessary wiring harnesses from both fenders.
  • Remove the parking brake assembly from the left fender.
  • Remove the fender mounting bolts from each of the axle assemblies and the seat support mounting bolts.
  • Remove the fenders and seat support as an assembly using a FES 138-1 sling and a suitable hoist.
