5. Setup and Placement

Proper placement of your subwoofer is crucial for optimal sound performance. Consider the following guidelines:

  • Corner Placement: Placing the subwoofer in a corner of the room can often maximize its output and provide a more impactful bass response.
  • Near Front Speakers: Positioning the subwoofer near your main front speakers can help create a more seamless blend between the subwoofer and the rest of your audio system.
  • Experimentation: Room acoustics vary. Experiment with different locations within your listening area to find the position that yields the best bass integration and overall sound quality.
  • Space Considerations: The S 810 SUB's slim design allows for flexible placement in smaller spaces or discreet integration with furniture. Refer to Figure 4.5 for detailed dimensions.

6. Connections

Before making any connections, ensure the subwoofer is unplugged from the power outlet.

  1. Line-Level Input (RCA): Connect an RCA cable from the LFE (Low-Frequency Effects) output or subwoofer output of your AV receiver or pre-amplifier to the 'LINE IN L/LFE' input on the subwoofer's control panel (see Figure 4.4). If your receiver has separate left and right subwoofer outputs, use both 'LINE IN L/LFE' and 'LINE IN R' inputs.
  2. Power Connection: Once all audio connections are made, connect the supplied power cord to the subwoofer's power input and then to a suitable wall outlet.

7. Operation

The control panel for the Jamo S 810 SUB is located on the bottom of the unit (refer to Figure 4.4). You may need to carefully tilt or lift the subwoofer to access these controls during initial setup.

  • Power Switch: Toggles the subwoofer's power ON or OFF.
  • Auto/On/Off Switch: Select 'AUTO' for the subwoofer to automatically turn on when an audio signal is detected and enter standby mode when no signal is present. Select 'ON' for continuous operation. Select 'OFF' to power down the unit.
  • Volume Control: Adjusts the overall output level of the subwoofer. Start with a low setting and gradually increase until the bass blends seamlessly with your main speakers.
  • LOW PASS Filter: This control sets the upper frequency limit for the subwoofer. Adjust this to blend the subwoofer's output with your main speakers. A common starting point is around 80Hz, but this may vary depending on your main speakers' low-frequency capabilities.
  • PHASE Switch (0°/180°): This switch helps to match the subwoofer's output phase with your main speakers. Experiment with both settings to determine which provides the most coherent and impactful bass at your listening position.

8. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Jamo S 810 SUB subwoofer, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the exterior surfaces. Avoid abrasive cleaners, solvents, or liquid sprays, as these can damage the finish.
  • Dust: Regularly dust the grille and cabinet to prevent accumulation, which can affect performance and appearance.
  • Ventilation: Ensure that the subwoofer's ventilation openings remain clear and unobstructed to prevent overheating.
  • Storage: If storing the subwoofer for an extended period, disconnect it from power and store it in a cool, dry place, ideally in its original packaging.
