4. Setup

4.1 Placement

The Jamo S 808 Subwoofer features a slim-line design, allowing for versatile placement options. It can be positioned vertically or horizontally to fit into various spaces, including built-in cabinets or next to TV consoles.

4.2 Connecting the Subwoofer

The subwoofer offers versatile connectivity options. The control panel and input/output ports are located on the bottom of the unit when placed vertically, or on the side when placed horizontally.

Connection Options:

RCA Line-In (Recommended): Connect the included RCA cable from your receiver's subwoofer output (LFE or Sub Out) to the LFE IN port on the subwoofer.
Line-In (Stereo RCA): If your receiver does not have a dedicated LFE output, connect a stereo RCA cable from your receiver's stereo pre-out to the LEFT/LFE and RIGHT LINE IN ports on the subwoofer.
3.5mm to RCA: For devices with a 3.5mm audio output (like smartphones or computers), use a 3.5mm to RCA adapter cable to connect to the LINE IN ports.

After connecting the audio cable, plug the power cable into the subwoofer and then into a wall outlet.

5. Operating the Subwoofer

5.1 Adjusting Volume

Use the 'Volume' knob on the control panel to adjust the output level of the subwoofer. Start with a low volume and gradually increase it until the bass blends seamlessly with your main speakers.

5.2 Setting the Low-Pass Filter (Crossover)

The 'Low Pass (Hz)' knob controls the crossover frequency. This determines the highest frequency the subwoofer will reproduce. Adjust this setting to match the low-frequency capabilities of your main speakers. A common starting point is 80Hz, but experimentation is recommended for optimal sound integration.

5.3 Phase Control

The 'Phase' switch (0°/180°) helps to ensure that the subwoofer's output is in phase with your main speakers. Listen to music with strong bass and switch between 0° and 180°. Choose the setting that provides the most impactful and coherent bass response.

5.4 Auto On/Off Function

The subwoofer features an auto on/off function. When set to 'AUTO', the subwoofer will automatically power on when it detects an audio signal and enter standby mode after a period of inactivity. This conserves energy.
