Setup
1. Battery Installation
The FLIR VT8-600 requires 2 AA batteries for operation, which are included with the device. To install or replace batteries:
- Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the unit.
- Use a suitable tool (e.g., a small screwdriver) to open the battery compartment.
- Insert the 2 AA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-) as indicated inside the compartment.
- Securely close the battery compartment cover.
2. Connecting Test Leads
For measurements requiring test leads (e.g., voltage, resistance, continuity, capacitance), connect the leads to the appropriate input jacks on the bottom of the device.
- Insert the black test lead into the 'COM' (common) jack.
- Insert the red test lead into the 'VΩ' jack for voltage, resistance, continuity, and capacitance measurements.

Operating Instructions
The FLIR VT8-600 features a rotary dial for mode selection and dedicated buttons for additional functions.
1. Power On/Off and Mode Selection
Turn the rotary dial to the desired measurement function to power on the device. Turn the dial to 'OFF' to power off the device.
2. Measurement Functions
- AC/DC Voltage Measurement (V∼ / V—)
Select the voltage mode on the rotary dial. Connect the test leads in parallel to the circuit or component to measure voltage. The device supports up to 600V. - AC/DC Current Measurement (A∼ / A—)
Select the current mode on the rotary dial. Use the open jaw to clamp around a single conductor to measure current. The device supports up to 100A. Ensure the conductor is centered within the jaw for accurate readings.

- Resistance Measurement (Ω)
Select the resistance mode. Connect the test leads across the component when it is de-energized. - Continuity Test (⚡)
Select the continuity mode. Place the test leads across the circuit or component. A continuous tone indicates continuity. - Capacitance Measurement (‡)
Select the capacitance mode. Connect the test leads across the capacitor. Ensure the capacitor is discharged before testing.
3. Special Functions
- MODE Button: Toggles between AC and DC measurements or other sub-functions within a mode.
- REL/ZERO Button: Used for relative measurements or to zero out the display for current measurements.
- HOLD Button: Freezes the current reading on the display. Press again to release.
- Backlight/Work Light Button: Activates the display backlight and the integrated LED work light for improved visibility in dimly lit environments.
