2. Safety Information

Always prioritize safety during any recovery operation. Failure to follow safety guidelines can result in serious injury or property damage.

  • Inspect Equipment: Before each use, thoroughly inspect the snatch block, winch line, shackles, and anchor points for any signs of wear, damage, or corrosion. Do not use damaged equipment.
  • Understand Load Limits: Never exceed the maximum rated capacity of the snatch block (21,000 lbs / 9.6 tons) or any other component in your recovery system.
  • Wear Protective Gear: Always wear heavy-duty gloves and eye protection.
  • Clear the Area: Ensure all bystanders are at a safe distance, outside the potential path of a snapping line or flying debris.
  • Use a Winch Damper: Place a winch damper blanket or heavy jacket over the winch line to absorb energy in case of a line failure.
  • Secure Anchor Points: Use only strong, reliable anchor points such as tree trunks (with a tree trunk protector), rock sliders, or other vehicles. Avoid attaching directly to bumpers or suspension components not designed for recovery.
  • Smooth Operation: Apply power smoothly and gradually. Avoid sudden jerks or shock loading.
  • Lubrication: Ensure the snatch block is properly lubricated before use.

3. Setup and Preparation

Proper setup is crucial for effective and safe operation of the snatch block.

  1. Inspect the Snatch Block: Check the pulley wheel for smooth rotation and ensure there are no cracks or deformities in the housing. Verify the grease fitting is intact.
  2. Lubricate (if necessary): If the pulley feels stiff or has not been lubricated recently, apply grease through the grease fitting.
  3. Open the Snatch Block: The INCLAKE Snatch Block is designed to swivel open. Locate the pivot pin and open the side plate to allow the winch line to be inserted.

  4. Insert Winch Line: Route the winch line around the pulley wheel. Ensure the line sits correctly within the groove.
  5. Close the Snatch Block: Close the side plate and secure the pivot pin. Ensure it is fully locked and cannot accidentally open during operation.

4. Operating Instructions

The snatch block can be used in various recovery scenarios to multiply pulling force or change the direction of pull.

4.1. Single Line Pull (Doubling Winch Power)

This configuration effectively halves the load on your winch, increasing its pulling capacity. It is ideal for heavy recovery situations.

  1. Identify Anchor Point: Select a strong, stable anchor point (e.g., a tree, another vehicle, or a rock).
  2. Secure Anchor: If using a tree, wrap a tree trunk protector around it. Attach a rated D-shackle to the tree trunk protector.
  3. Attach Snatch Block: Connect the snatch block to the D-shackle at the anchor point.
  4. Route Winch Line: Pull the winch line out from your vehicle's winch, through the snatch block, and back to your vehicle.
  5. Secure Winch Line to Vehicle: Attach the end of the winch line to a rated recovery point on your vehicle using another D-shackle.
  6. Safety Precautions: Place a winch damper blanket over the winch line. Ensure all personnel are clear of the recovery area.
  7. Initiate Recovery: Begin winching slowly and smoothly. Monitor all connections and the winch line for any issues.

4.2. Changing Direction (Offset Pull)

When a direct line of pull is not possible due to obstacles, a snatch block can be used to redirect the winch line.

  1. Identify Anchor Point: Choose a strong anchor point that allows for a clear line of pull around the obstacle.
  2. Secure Anchor: Use a tree trunk protector and a rated D-shackle to secure the anchor point.
  3. Attach Snatch Block: Connect the snatch block to the D-shackle at the chosen anchor point.
  4. Route Winch Line: Pull the winch line from your vehicle's winch, through the snatch block, and directly to the stuck vehicle's recovery point.
  5. Secure Winch Line to Stuck Vehicle: Attach the end of the winch line to a rated recovery point on the stuck vehicle using a D-shackle.
  6. Safety Precautions: Place a winch damper blanket over the winch line. Ensure all personnel are clear of the recovery area.
  7. Initiate Recovery: Begin winching slowly and smoothly, ensuring the line is not rubbing against any sharp edges.

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of your INCLAKE Snatch Block.

  • Lubrication: The snatch block is equipped with a grease fitting. Periodically apply a suitable grease (e.g., marine-grade or general-purpose chassis grease) to the fitting using a grease gun. This ensures the pulley wheel rotates freely and reduces wear.

  • Cleaning: After use, especially in muddy or sandy conditions, clean the snatch block thoroughly with water to remove dirt and debris. Allow it to dry completely before storage.
  • Inspection: Regularly inspect the snatch block for any signs of damage, such as cracks, bends, excessive wear on the pulley groove, or corrosion. Pay close attention to the pivot pin and locking mechanism.
  • Storage: Store the snatch block in a clean, dry place, away from direct sunlight and harsh chemicals.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your snatch block, consider the following:

  • Pulley Not Rotating Smoothly:
    • Check for debris lodged in the pulley mechanism. Clean thoroughly.
    • Apply grease to the grease fitting.
    • Inspect for damage or deformation of the pulley wheel or axle.
  • Snatch Block Not Opening/Closing:
    • Ensure the pivot pin is free of dirt or rust. Clean and lubricate if necessary.
    • Check for any physical damage preventing the plates from aligning.
  • Unusual Noises During Operation:
    • This often indicates a lack of lubrication or the presence of foreign objects. Stop operation, inspect, clean, and lubricate.
    • Could also indicate excessive wear on the bearing or pulley.

If problems persist or if you observe significant damage, discontinue use and contact customer support.
