Setup

  1. Attach the T-mount Adapter: The lens uses a universal T-mount (T-thread) system. First, screw the appropriate T-mount adapter (specific to your camera brand, e.g., Pentax K-mount) onto the rear of the lens. Ensure it is securely tightened.
  2. Attach the 2x Converter (Optional): If you wish to achieve the 1000mm effective focal length, attach the 2x converter between the lens and the T-mount adapter. Screw the 2x converter onto the rear of the lens, then attach the T-mount adapter to the rear of the 2x converter.
  3. Mount to Camera: Align the T-mount adapter with your camera's lens mount indicators and rotate until it clicks into place. Ensure the lens is firmly attached to the camera body.
  4. Attach to Tripod: Due to the significant focal length and weight, it is highly recommended to use a sturdy tripod. Attach the lens's integrated tripod collar directly to your tripod's quick-release plate or tripod head. This provides better balance and stability than mounting the camera body directly.

Operating Instructions

Manual Focus

This is a manual focus lens. To achieve sharp images:

  1. Set Camera to Manual Mode: Ensure your camera is set to Manual (M) or Aperture Priority (Av/A) mode. Disable any autofocus settings on your camera.
  2. Adjust Aperture: Rotate the aperture ring on the lens to select your desired f-stop. The lens offers apertures from f/8 to f/32. A wider aperture (smaller f-number) allows more light but has a shallower depth of field. A narrower aperture (larger f-number) allows less light but provides a greater depth of field.
  3. Focusing: Look through your camera's viewfinder or use Live View on your LCD screen. Rotate the knurled focus ring (located towards the front of the lens) until your subject appears sharp. For critical focus, especially at long focal lengths, use your camera's focus peaking or magnification features if available.
  4. Shutter Speed: Adjust your camera's shutter speed to achieve proper exposure. Given the long focal length, a faster shutter speed is generally required to prevent camera shake, even when using a tripod.

Using the Tripod Collar

The integrated tripod collar allows for stable mounting and rotation. Loosen the knob on the tripod collar to rotate the lens and camera assembly for horizontal or vertical shooting without removing it from the tripod. Tighten the knob firmly once the desired orientation is achieved.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning the Lens: Use a soft, lint-free microfiber cloth specifically designed for optical surfaces to clean the lens elements. For stubborn smudges, use a small amount of lens cleaning solution applied to the cloth, not directly to the lens. Avoid touching the glass surfaces with your fingers.
  • Dust Removal: Use a blower brush or compressed air (specifically for electronics/optics) to remove dust particles from the lens surface before wiping.
  • Storage: When not in use, store the lens in its provided lens case or a padded camera bag to protect it from dust, moisture, and physical impact. Keep lens caps on both ends.
  • Environmental Protection: Avoid exposing the lens to extreme temperatures, high humidity, or direct sunlight for prolonged periods.
