3. Setup

3.1 Unboxing

Upon opening the package, ensure all components are present:

  • 1 x Gain Express HTM-238 Humidity & Temperature Meter
  • 1 x Instruction Manual
  • 1 x 9V Battery

3.2 Battery Installation

  1. Locate the battery compartment on the back of the meter.
  2. Slide the battery compartment cover downwards to open it.
  3. Connect the provided 9V battery to the battery connector, observing polarity.
  4. Place the battery into the compartment.
  5. Slide the battery compartment cover back into place until it clicks securely.

The HTM-238 is powered by a 9V battery, easily accessible via the rear compartment. Its compact design allows it to fit conveniently into a pocket.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Power On/Off

Press the Power ON/OFF button (⏻) to turn the meter on. Press and hold the same button for approximately 2 seconds to turn the meter off. The device will automatically shut down after a period of inactivity to conserve battery life.

4.2 Taking Measurements

Once powered on, the meter will immediately begin displaying current humidity (%RH) and temperature (°C/°F) readings on the LCD. Ensure the sensor at the top of the device is exposed to the environment you wish to measure.

4.3 Switching Temperature Units (°C/°F)

With the meter powered on, briefly press the Power ON/OFF button (⏻) to toggle between Celsius (°C) and Fahrenheit (°F) temperature units.

4.4 MAX/MIN and Data Hold Function

Press the MAX button to cycle through different display modes:

  1. Current Reading: Default display.
  2. MAX: Displays the maximum temperature and humidity recorded since the meter was turned on or reset.
  3. MIN: Displays the minimum temperature and humidity recorded since the meter was turned on or reset.
  4. HOLD: Freezes the current readings on the display. Press MAX again to exit HOLD mode and return to current readings.

To reset MAX/MIN values, press and hold the MAX button for approximately 2 seconds while in MAX or MIN display mode.

The display can show the maximum recorded values, minimum recorded values, or hold the current readings.

4.5 Backlight

The LCD display features a backlight for improved visibility in low-light conditions. The backlight activates automatically when the meter is turned on and will turn off automatically after a short period of inactivity to save power.

6. Maintenance
