Setup Instructions
Detailed instructions are included in the product packaging. The following is a general guide:
- Unpacking: Carefully remove the aquarium and all components from the packaging. Inspect for any damage. Due to the fragile nature of glass, handle with extreme care.
- Placement: Select a flat, sturdy, and level surface for the aquarium. Place the provided bottom insulation pad on the surface before positioning the aquarium. Ensure the location is away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and drafts.
- Filter Compartment: The aquarium features a built-in back filter. Familiarize yourself with its sections.

- Install Filter Media: Place the High Polish Filter Sock into the designated filter chamber, typically the first chamber where water enters from the display tank. Additional filter media (not included) such as biological media or chemical media can be added to subsequent chambers as desired.

- Install Pump: Place the QuietOne submersible pump in the final filter chamber, ensuring it is fully submerged when the tank is filled. Connect the adjustable return fitting to the pump's outlet and position it in the main display area to direct water flow.
- Leak Test: Before adding substrate or livestock, fill the aquarium with fresh water and check for any leaks for at least 24 hours.
- Aquascaping: Once the leak test is successful, drain the water and add your desired substrate, decorations, and plants.
- Filling and Cycling: Slowly fill the aquarium with conditioned water. Begin the aquarium cycling process appropriate for your chosen aquatic environment (freshwater or saltwater).
Operating Instructions
The LIFEGARD Crystal Aquarium is designed for continuous operation once properly set up and cycled.
- Power On: After ensuring all electrical components (pump, heater if used, lighting) are correctly installed and submerged (where applicable), plug them into a grounded power outlet.
- Water Flow Adjustment: The adjustable return fitting allows you to direct the water flow within the main display tank. Adjust it to create optimal circulation for your aquatic inhabitants and to prevent stagnant areas.
- Monitoring: Regularly monitor water parameters (temperature, pH, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate) to ensure a healthy environment for your fish and plants.

Maintenance
Regular maintenance is crucial for a healthy aquarium environment.
- Water Changes: Perform regular partial water changes (e.g., 25% weekly or bi-weekly) to remove nitrates and replenish essential minerals.
- Filter Sock Cleaning/Replacement: The High Polish Filter Sock should be cleaned or replaced frequently (e.g., every few days to weekly) to prevent the buildup of detritus and maintain efficient mechanical filtration.

- Pump Cleaning: Periodically clean the submersible pump impeller to ensure optimal performance and prevent blockages. Unplug the pump before cleaning.
- Algae Removal: Scrape algae from the glass as needed using an aquarium-safe algae scraper.
- Bottom Drain: The aquarium is equipped with a bottom plug and/or drain to simplify maintenance and water changes. Utilize this feature for easier draining.
Troubleshooting
This section addresses common issues you might encounter.
- Pump Not Running:
- Check if the pump is plugged in and the power outlet is functional.
- Ensure the pump is fully submerged in water.
- Inspect the impeller for any blockages or debris. Clean if necessary.
- Reduced Water Flow:
- Clean the filter sock; a clogged sock will restrict flow.
- Check the pump impeller for debris.
- Ensure the return fitting is not obstructed.
- Cloudy Water:
- Perform a partial water change.
- Clean or replace filter media, especially the filter sock.
- Check water parameters; cloudy water can indicate a bacterial bloom or high ammonia/nitrite levels during cycling.
- Leaks:
- If a leak is detected, immediately drain the aquarium and contact the manufacturer or retailer. Do not attempt to repair glass leaks yourself.
