2. General Safety Instructions

Always follow basic safety precautions to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and personal injury. Keep this manual handy for quick reference.

2.1. Work Area Safety

  • Keep the work area clean and well-lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.
  • Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases, or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.
  • Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control.

2.2. Electrical Safety

  • Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way.
  • Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces such as pipes, radiators, ranges, and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.
  • Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock.
  • Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling, or unplugging the power tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges, or moving parts.

2.3. Personal Safety

  • Always wear eye protection. Use safety glasses, goggles, or a face shield.
  • Wear appropriate hearing protection when operating noisy tools.
  • Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry. Keep your hair, clothing, and gloves away from moving parts.
  • Stay alert, watch what you are doing, and use common sense when operating a power tool.
  • Use safety clamps or a vise to hold the workpiece. This is safer than using your hand and it frees both hands to operate the tool.

4.2. Adjusting Cutting Depth

The cutting depth can be adjusted to match the thickness of your workpiece. This prevents unnecessary blade exposure and reduces kickback risk.

  1. Unplug the saw.
  2. Loosen the depth adjustment lever located on the side of the saw.
  3. Raise or lower the base plate until the desired cutting depth is indicated on the scale. For optimal safety and cut quality, set the blade depth so that only one or two teeth extend below the workpiece.
  4. Tighten the depth adjustment lever securely.

4.3. Adjusting Bevel Angle

The saw can make bevel cuts up to 45 degrees.

  1. Unplug the saw.
  2. Loosen the bevel adjustment knob at the front of the saw.
  3. Tilt the base plate to the desired angle, indicated on the bevel scale.
  4. Tighten the bevel adjustment knob firmly.

  2. Adjust the guide to the desired width from the blade.
  3. Tighten the locking screw to secure the parallel guide in place.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Before Starting

  • Ensure the workpiece is securely clamped.
  • Verify the blade is sharp and correctly installed.
  • Check that all adjustments (depth, bevel, guide) are securely tightened.
  • Connect the dust extraction adapter if desired for a cleaner work area.
  • Wear all necessary personal protective equipment (PPE).

5.2. Making a Cut

  2. Hold the saw firmly with both hands, using the main handle and the robust auxiliary handle for stability.
  3. Align the blade with your cutting line.
  4. Press the trigger switch to start the saw. Allow the blade to reach full speed before contacting the workpiece.
  5. Slowly and steadily push the saw through the workpiece. Do not force the saw; let the blade do the work.
  6. Maintain a firm grip and keep the base plate flat against the workpiece throughout the cut.
  7. Once the cut is complete, release the trigger and allow the blade to stop completely before lifting the saw from the workpiece.

7. Troubleshooting

This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your circular saw.

Problem Possible Cause Solution
Saw does not start. No power supply; faulty switch; worn carbon brushes. Check power connection; contact service for switch replacement; replace carbon brushes.
Poor cut quality or excessive splintering. Dull or incorrect blade; incorrect cutting depth; forcing the saw. Replace blade or use appropriate blade for material; adjust cutting depth; reduce feed rate.
Saw jams or kicks back. Workpiece not secured; blade binding; incorrect cutting technique. Secure workpiece firmly; ensure blade is sharp and clean; review operating instructions for proper technique.
Excessive vibration. Damaged or unbalanced blade; loose components. Inspect and replace blade if necessary; check and tighten all screws and fasteners.

If you encounter problems not listed here or if the suggested solutions do not resolve the issue, please contact Bosch customer service or an authorized service center.
