1. Introduction

The Yale Security Assure Lock SL YRD256-CBA-619 is a keyless entry smart deadbolt designed for enhanced home security and convenience. This slim touchscreen lock integrates Wi-Fi connectivity, allowing remote access and control via the Yale Access app. It features automatic locking and unlocking capabilities, voice assistant compatibility, and a tamper-proof design without a traditional key cylinder.

3. Setup and Installation

The Yale Assure Lock SL is designed for easy installation on standard doors with just a screwdriver. Ensure your door meets the following specifications:

  • Door Thickness: 1-3/8" to 2-1/4"
  • Cross Bore Hole: 2-1/8" diameter
  • Edge Bore Hole: 1" diameter
  • Backset: 2-3/8" or 2-3/4"

Installation Steps:

  1. Prepare the Door: If replacing an existing deadbolt, remove it. Ensure the door holes match the specifications above.
  2. Install the Deadbolt Latch: Insert the deadbolt latch into the edge bore hole. Ensure the 'UP' arrow on the latch is facing upwards. Secure with the provided wood screws. The latch is adjustable for 2-3/8" or 2-3/4" backsets.
  3. Install the Strike Plate: Attach the strike plate to the door frame using the provided wood screws.
  4. Install Exterior Keypad: Position the exterior keypad flush against the outside of the door. Guide the cable from the keypad underneath the deadbolt latch. Ensure the tailpiece from the keypad slides into the horizontal rectangular hole of the latch.
  5. Install Interior Mounting Bracket: Guide the keypad cable through the cable hole in the interior mounting bracket. Position the mounting bracket against the inside of the door, ensuring the tailpiece from the keypad passes through the center hole. Secure the mounting bracket to the exterior keypad using the two long through-bolts. Tighten them down, but do not overtighten.
  6. Connect Cable and Install Interior Assembly: Connect the keypad cable to the adapter on the interior assembly. Ensure the cable's ridges face outwards. Tuck the cable under the cable hook. Insert the tailpiece into the thumb turn shaft on the interior assembly.
  7. Secure Interior Assembly: Attach the interior assembly to the mounting bracket using the small black screws. Tighten the screws.
  8. Test Operation: Before inserting batteries, test the deadbolt by rotating the thumb turn several times with the door open and closed. It should operate smoothly without resistance.
  9. Insert Batteries and Battery Cover: Insert the 4 AA batteries. If applicable, insert the Yale Network Module into its slot above the battery compartment before inserting batteries. Attach the battery cover and secure it with the small screw at the top.
  10. Set Master PIN Code: Wake the keypad by touching it with three fingers. Press the 'Gear' icon, then '1', then 'Gear' again. Enter a 4-8 digit master PIN code and press 'Gear' to complete.
  11. Hand the Lock: After setting the master PIN, press any key to hand the lock. This teaches the lock the correct direction to extend the bolt for your door.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Keypad Access

  • To Unlock: Wake the keypad by touching it with three fingers. Enter your 4-8 digit PIN code followed by the 'Checkmark' icon.
  • To Lock: Simply press the 'Yale' button at the top of the keypad.

4.2 Yale Access App Control

The Yale Access app provides comprehensive control over your smart lock from anywhere.

  • Remote Lock/Unlock: Use the app interface to lock or unlock your door remotely.
  • Share Access: Create and manage unique entry codes for family, friends, or service providers. Set codes for permanent, temporary, or scheduled access.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Battery Replacement

The Yale Assure Lock SL operates on 4 AA batteries (included). Battery life can vary based on usage and environmental conditions, typically lasting several months. The lock will provide low battery warnings.

  1. Remove the battery cover on the interior assembly.
  2. Remove the old AA batteries.
  3. Insert 4 new AA batteries, ensuring correct polarity.
  4. Replace the battery cover and secure it.

  • App Connectivity Issues: Ensure your Wi-Fi network is active and the August Connect Wi-Fi Bridge is properly set up and within range. Restart the Yale Access app or reinstall it if issues persist.
  • Auto-Unlock/Auto-Lock Not Working: Verify DoorSense is correctly installed and calibrated in the Yale Access app. Check app settings for Auto-Unlock/Auto-Lock to ensure they are enabled.
  • Difficulty with Deadbolt Movement: Ensure the door frame and strike plate are properly aligned. The deadbolt should move smoothly without friction. Adjust the strike plate if necessary.
  • Forgotten PIN Code: Reset your PIN code through the Yale Access app. If you forget your master PIN and cannot access the app, refer to the full installation manual for factory reset instructions.
