4. Setup

4.1 Initial Charging

Before first use, fully charge the device. Connect the provided USB charging cable to the detector's Micro-USB port and a compatible USB power source. The battery indicator on the display will show charging status.

4.2 Attaching the Pump and Probe

The sampling pump and probe are essential for remote sampling. Follow these steps to connect them:

Diagram showing how to connect the pump to the gas detector
Figure 4.1: Connecting the pump to the detector via the calibration cap.

This image illustrates the connection process: the detector is on the left, the pump and probe on the right. A clear tube connects the detector's inlet (via a calibration cap) to the pump's air-output port. This setup allows for sampling and extending tubing up to 60 feet (20 meters).

  1. Ensure both the detector and pump are powered off.
  2. Connect one end of the sampling tube to the air-output port of the pump.
  3. Attach the other end of the sampling tube to the calibration cap on the detector.
  4. Ensure all connections are secure to prevent leaks and ensure accurate sampling.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Powering On/Off

  • To Power On: Press and hold the power button (usually the center button) until the display illuminates and the device performs a self-test.
  • To Power Off: Press and hold the power button until the device powers down.

5.2 Taking Measurements

Once powered on, the detector will begin displaying the current oxygen concentration. For remote sampling with the pump:

  1. Position the probe in the area where oxygen measurement is required.
  2. Turn on the sampling pump. The pump will draw air through the probe and tubing to the detector.
  3. Observe the oxygen concentration reading on the detector's display.
  4. If an alarm sounds, evacuate the area immediately and follow your facility's safety protocols.

This image shows a worker in a hard hat and safety vest using the oxygen detector and its sampling pump with a long probe to check air quality in a confined or hard-to-reach area, demonstrating its utility for environmental monitoring.

5.3 Alarm Functions

The device features adjustable alarm thresholds for low and high oxygen levels. When oxygen concentration falls outside the safe range, the device will activate:

  • Audible Alarm: A loud beeping sound.
  • Visual Alarm: Flashing RED LEDs.
  • Vibration Alarm: The device will vibrate.

Refer to the device's on-screen menu for adjusting alarm set points.
