5. Operating Instructions
The multi-port valve allows for various operating modes. Always ensure the pump is OFF before changing valve settings.
5.1. Multi-Port Valve Functions
- FILTER: For normal filtering of pool water.
- BACKWASH: For cleaning the sand filter. Water flows in reverse through the filter and out the waste port.
- RINSE: For initial startup cleaning and leveling the sand bed after backwashing.
- WASTE: For bypassing the filter and draining water directly from the pool out the waste port.
- CLOSED: Shuts off all flow to the filter and pump.
- RECIRCULATE: For circulating pool water without filtering.
- WINTER: For winterizing the pump.

5.2. Initial Startup (Backwash & Rinse)
- Ensure all hoses are correctly connected and the pool is filled to the appropriate level.
- Turn the multi-port valve to the BACKWASH position.
- Turn on the pump. Run for 2-3 minutes or until the water flowing out of the waste port is clear.
- Turn off the pump.
- Turn the multi-port valve to the RINSE position.
- Turn on the pump. Run for 30-60 seconds.
- Turn off the pump.
- Turn the multi-port valve to the FILTER position. The pump is now ready for normal operation.
5.3. ChemConnect Dispenser
The integrated ChemConnect Dispenser helps maintain proper chemical balance by evenly dispersing chlorine tablets (not included) into the pool water. Follow the chemical manufacturer's instructions for dosage.

6. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity of your sand filter pump.
6.1. Backwashing the Filter
Backwash the filter when the pressure gauge indicates a reading in the "RED" zone, or when the pool water becomes cloudy. This typically occurs every 1-2 weeks depending on pool usage and debris.
- Turn off the pump.
- Turn on the pump to resume normal filtration.
6.2. Cleaning the Pre-Filter Strainer
The pre-filter strainer collects larger particles to protect the pump impeller. Check and clean it regularly.
- Turn off the pump and close all valves to the pool.
- Unscrew the pre-filter cover.
- Remove and clean the strainer basket with water.
- Replace the strainer basket and secure the cover. Ensure the O-ring is properly seated for a watertight seal.
- Open the valves and turn on the pump.
6.3. Sand Replacement
Silica sand typically needs to be changed once every 3 years, depending on usage and water quality.
7. Troubleshooting
Refer to this section for common issues and their solutions.
- Low Water Flow: Check for clogged pre-filter strainer, dirty sand filter (perform backwash), or obstructions in hoses. Ensure all valves are fully open.
- Water Leaks: Check all hose connections for tightness. Inspect O-rings and gaskets for damage or improper seating.
- Pump Not Starting: Ensure the GFCI plug is reset and receiving power. Check for tripped circuit breakers. Verify the timer setting if applicable.
- Cloudy Pool Water: Perform backwash and rinse cycle. Check chemical balance of the pool water. Ensure pump is running for adequate duration daily.
- Pressure Gauge in Red Zone: Indicates a dirty filter. Perform backwash and rinse cycle immediately.
