3. Setup and Installation
Proper installation is crucial for optimal performance and safety. It is recommended to have this amplifier installed by a professional.
3.1 Unpacking
Carefully remove the amplifier from its packaging. Verify that all components are present. The box should contain the PRXA300.2 amplifier.
3.2 Wiring Connections
Ensure the vehicle's battery is disconnected before making any power connections.
- Power (+12V): Connect a suitable gauge power wire (recommended 8GKIT) directly from the positive terminal of the vehicle's battery to the +12V terminal on the amplifier. An inline fuse (not supplied) must be installed within 18 inches of the battery.
- Ground (GND): Connect a wire of the same gauge as the power wire from the GND terminal on the amplifier to a clean, unpainted metal surface of the vehicle's chassis. Ensure a solid electrical connection.
- Remote (REMOTE): Connect a remote turn-on wire from your head unit's remote output to the REMOTE terminal on the amplifier. If your head unit does not have a remote output, the amplifier's signal sensing auto turn-on feature can be used.
- Input (RCA): Connect RCA cables from your head unit's audio output to the INPUT terminals on the amplifier.
- Output (Speakers): Connect your speakers to the OUTPUT terminals. Observe correct polarity (+ to + and - to -). The PRXA300.2 is a 2-channel amplifier.

4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Initial Power-Up
After all connections are securely made, reconnect the vehicle's battery. Turn on your head unit. The amplifier should power on, indicated by the blue LED accent light.
4.2 Adjusting Controls
The amplifier's controls (gain, crossover) are located under the magnetic top panel cover.
- Gain Control: Adjust the gain control to match the output voltage of your head unit. Start with the gain at minimum and slowly increase it until the desired volume is achieved without distortion.
- Crossover (LPF/HPF): The 12dB/octave Butterworth crossover allows you to filter frequencies.
- LPF (Low Pass Filter): Allows frequencies below the set point to pass through. Useful for subwoofers.
- HPF (High Pass Filter): Allows frequencies above the set point to pass through. Useful for full-range speakers.
4.3 Signal Sensing Auto Turn-On
If the remote wire is not used, the amplifier can detect an audio signal from the RCA inputs and automatically turn on. This feature is useful for head units without a dedicated remote output.
5. Maintenance
The Memphis Audio PRXA300.2 amplifier is designed for durability and requires minimal maintenance.
- Cleaning: Periodically wipe the amplifier's exterior with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
- Ventilation: Ensure the amplifier has adequate ventilation. The diecast aluminum heatsink is designed to dissipate heat, but restricted airflow can lead to overheating. Do not block the cooling fins.
- Connections: Periodically check all wiring connections to ensure they are secure and free from corrosion.
