2. Setup and Installation
Before operating the Kolibri Signature money counter, ensure it is properly set up.
Unpacking:
- Carefully remove the machine from its packaging.
- Inspect the machine for any signs of damage during transit.
- Remove all protective films and packing materials from the machine, including inside the bill pathways and pockets.
Placement:
- Place the machine on a stable, flat, and level surface to ensure proper operation and prevent vibrations.
- Ensure adequate space around the machine for ventilation and ease of access during operation and maintenance.
Power Connection:
- Connect the provided power cable to the power input port on the back of the machine.
- Plug the other end of the power cable into a grounded electrical outlet.
- Turn on the main power switch, typically located on the back or side of the machine. The display should illuminate.
3. Operating Instructions
The Kolibri Signature offers various modes for efficient currency processing. The 4.3-inch touch screen allows for intuitive navigation and selection of functions.

Figure 3.1: Signature 4.3" Touch Screen. This image shows a finger interacting with the machine's touch screen display, which shows counting information such as total value, piece count, and detection status.
Loading Bills:
- Fan out the bills to prevent sticking.
- Place the stack of bills neatly into the input hopper, ensuring they are aligned and not creased or folded.
- Adjust the bill guides to fit the width of the currency.
Counting Modes:
The machine supports several counting and sorting modes:
- COUNT: Counts the total number of bills.
- MIX: Counts mixed denominations and provides a total value.
- SORT: Sorts bills by denomination.
- DSORT (Denomination Sort): Sorts bills by denomination, separating unrecognized or damaged bills into the reject pocket.
- FACE: Sorts bills by their front or back side.
- ORIENTATION: Sorts bills by their orientation (e.g., all bills facing the same direction).
- VBATCH (Value Batch): Batches bills by a preset value.
- ADD: Keeps a running total of counted bills across multiple batches.
- BATCH: Arranges a stack into preset quantities (e.g., 100 bills per batch).

Multi-Currency Handling:
The Kolibri Signature can count and sort mixed denominations for USD, CAD, MXN, EUR, and GBP. The machine automatically detects the first bill to facilitate seamless transitions between modes.

4. Counterfeit Detection
The Kolibri Signature employs a comprehensive 6-layer counterfeit detection system to ensure bill authenticity and accuracy.
Detection Methods:
- UV (Ultraviolet): Detects security threads and features visible under UV light.
- MG (Magnetic Ink): Verifies the presence and pattern of magnetic ink.
- IR (Infrared): Checks for infrared security features and patterns.
- CIS (Contact Image Sensors): Two CIS sensors scan the full image of both sides of the bill for detailed analysis.
- Double Note Detection: Identifies instances where two bills are fed through as one.
- Half Note Detection: Detects bills that are torn or incomplete.
- Chain Detection: Recognizes bills that are stuck together end-to-end.
- Banknote Size: Verifies correct bill dimensions.
- Serial Number Recognition: Records and displays serial numbers for traceability.

This diagram visually represents the various detection methods, including Magnetic Ink (MG), Infrared Transmission (Image), Full Color Sensor (RGB), Magnetic Thread (MT), Ultraviolet Paper Brightness (UV), Banknote Size, Infrared Reflection (IRR), 2 Contact Image Sensors, Chain Notes (CHN), Half-Notes (HLF), Serial Number Recognition, and Double Notes (DBL).
5. Reject Pocket Functionality
The Kolibri Signature features a 2-pocket design, including a dedicated reject pocket. This allows the machine to continue counting without interruption even when it detects suspicious, unrecognized, or damaged bills.
How the Reject Pocket Works:
- When a bill is identified as counterfeit, unrecognized (e.g., wrong denomination in SORT mode), or damaged, it is automatically diverted to the reject pocket.
- The main counting process continues uninterrupted, improving workflow efficiency.
- Users can inspect the bills in the reject pocket after the counting process is complete. The machine will often indicate the reason for rejection on the display.

Figure 5.1: Never Stop Counting with Reject Pocket. This diagram shows bills being fed into the machine, with accepted bills going to the main stacker and rejected bills being diverted to the separate reject pocket, allowing continuous operation.
6. Maintenance and Cleaning
Regular maintenance and cleaning are essential to ensure the longevity and accurate performance of your Kolibri Signature money counter.
Daily Cleaning:
- Power Off: Always turn off and unplug the machine before cleaning.
- Dust Removal: Use a soft brush or a can of compressed air to remove dust and lint from the bill pathways, sensors, and rollers. Pay particular attention to the areas around the input hopper, stacker, and reject pocket.
- Sensor Cleaning: Gently wipe the optical sensors with a lint-free cloth or cotton swab lightly dampened with isopropyl alcohol. Ensure no residue is left behind.
- External Surfaces: Wipe the exterior of the machine with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents.
Periodic Maintenance:
- Roller Inspection: Periodically inspect the rubber rollers for wear or damage. Worn rollers can lead to misfeeds or jams.
- Internal Access: Refer to the detailed cleaning instructions in the full user manual for accessing internal components for deeper cleaning, if necessary.
7. Troubleshooting
This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your Kolibri Signature money counter.
Common Issues and Solutions:
- Machine Jams Frequently:
- Ensure bills are fanned out and not stuck together before loading.
- Check for foreign objects or debris in the bill pathway.
- Clean the rollers and sensors as described in the Maintenance section.
- Adjust bill guides to fit the currency snugly but not too tightly.
- Inaccurate Counts or Denomination Errors:
- Clean all sensors, especially the CIS sensors.
- Ensure bills are not excessively worn, torn, or folded, as this can affect detection.
- Verify that the correct currency and mode are selected on the display.
- If using a higher speed setting, try reducing the speed for improved accuracy, especially with mixed or worn bills.
- Counterfeit Bills Not Detected or Real Bills Rejected:
- Ensure all counterfeit detection features (UV, MG, IR, CIS) are enabled in the settings.
- Clean the detection sensors thoroughly.
- Some extremely worn or damaged genuine bills may be flagged; re-feed them or inspect manually.
- If the issue persists, contact customer support.
- Machine Does Not Power On:
- Check if the power cable is securely connected to both the machine and the electrical outlet.
- Ensure the main power switch is in the 'ON' position.
- Test the electrical outlet with another device to confirm it is functional.
For issues not covered here, or if problems persist, please refer to the full user manual or contact Kolibri customer support.
