1. Overview
The Fujifilm Fujinon XF8-16mmF2.8R LM WR is a high-performance ultra-wide angle zoom lens designed for Fujifilm X-mount mirrorless cameras. This lens offers a versatile focal length range equivalent to 12-24mm in 35mm format, making it ideal for landscapes, architecture, and astrophotography. Its constant F2.8 maximum aperture ensures excellent low-light performance and consistent exposure throughout the zoom range.
Constructed with 20 elements in 13 groups, including 4 aspherical and 6 ED lens elements (3 Super ED), this lens effectively controls distortion and chromatic aberration, delivering sharp, high-resolution images from edge to edge. The Nano-GI coating minimizes ghosting and flare. The robust, weather-sealed design, with 11 points of sealing, provides dust and moisture resistance, allowing for reliable operation in challenging environments and temperatures as low as 14°F (-10°C).

3.2 Detaching the Lens
- Ensure the camera is powered off.
- While pressing the lens release button on the camera body, rotate the lens counter-clockwise until it stops.
- Carefully remove the lens from the camera body.
- Attach the rear lens cap to the lens and the body cap to the camera to protect the sensor and lens elements.
4. Operating the Lens
4.1 Zooming
To adjust the focal length, rotate the zoom ring located on the lens barrel. The lens offers a focal range from 8mm (ultra-wide) to 16mm (wide). The current focal length is indicated by markings on the ring.

4.2 Aperture Control
The lens features an aperture ring for direct control over the aperture setting. Rotate the aperture ring to select your desired f-stop, ranging from F2.8 to F22. The 'A' setting allows the camera to control the aperture automatically.
4.3 Focus Mode
The lens supports both autofocus (AF) and manual focus (MF). The focus mode is typically selected via a switch on the camera body. When in AF mode, the linear motor provides fast, precise, and quiet focusing. For manual focus, rotate the focus ring on the lens barrel.
4.4 Weather Resistance
This lens is designed with weather and dust resistance, featuring seals at 11 points to protect against moisture and dust. It is also capable of operating in low temperatures down to 14°F (-10°C). While robust, it is recommended to avoid prolonged exposure to heavy rain or extreme conditions.
Note:
- Due to the large, convex front element, standard screw-on filters cannot be directly attached to this lens.
- Always ensure the lens is securely mounted to the camera body to maintain its weather-resistant properties.
5. Maintenance
5.1 Cleaning the Lens
- Use a lens blower to remove dust and loose particles from the lens surfaces.
- For smudges or fingerprints, use a clean, soft microfiber cloth specifically designed for optical lenses. Breathe lightly on the lens surface before gently wiping in a circular motion.
- Avoid using harsh chemicals, solvents, or abrasive materials, as these can damage the lens coatings.
5.2 Storage
- When not in use, always attach both the front and rear lens caps.
- Store the lens in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- If storing for extended periods, consider using a dehumidifying cabinet or silica gel packets to prevent mold and mildew growth.
6. Troubleshooting
6.1 Lens Not Focusing
- Ensure the camera's focus mode is set to AF (Autofocus) if you intend to use autofocus.
- Check for sufficient light in the scene. Autofocus may struggle in very low light conditions.
- Verify that the lens is securely attached to the camera body.
- Clean the electrical contacts on both the lens and camera body with a clean, dry cloth.
6.2 Image Quality Issues (Softness, Aberrations)
- Ensure the lens elements are clean and free from dust or smudges.
- Check your camera's settings for proper exposure and ISO.
- While the lens is designed to minimize aberrations, extreme shooting conditions or specific settings might reveal minor optical characteristics.
- Ensure you are using appropriate shutter speeds to avoid camera shake, especially in low light.
