Introduction
This manual provides comprehensive instructions for the proper use and care of your Bushnell Elite Tactical Riflescope SMRS II. The SMRS II is a low power variable optic (LPVO) designed for precision, featuring an illuminated CQ BDC reticle in the 2nd focal plane, a folding throw lever for quick magnification changes, and exposed turrets for precise adjustments. Please read this manual thoroughly before operating your riflescope to ensure optimal performance and safety.

Setup
Mounting the Riflescope
The Bushnell Elite Tactical SMRS II is designed to be mounted on a rifle. It is compatible with standard rifle mounting systems, and a cantilever mount is a common option. Ensure the mounting rings are securely fastened to your rifle's rail system and that the riflescope is positioned to achieve proper eye relief.
- Secure Mounting: Use appropriate mounting rings and torque specifications recommended by the mount manufacturer to prevent movement under recoil.
- Eye Relief: Position the riflescope so that you have a full, clear field of view without any black rings around the image when shouldering the rifle. The SMRS II offers approximately 4 inches of eye relief.
- Leveling: Ensure the reticle is perfectly level with the rifle to prevent windage errors at longer distances.
Initial Adjustments
After mounting, perform initial adjustments to prepare the riflescope for use.
- Diopter Adjustment: Look through the riflescope at a plain, bright background (like the sky). Rotate the diopter ring (located at the eyepiece) until the reticle appears sharp and clear. This adjustment is personal and should be set for your individual vision.
- Magnification: Set the magnification to the lowest setting (1x) for initial zeroing or close-quarters use.
Operating the Riflescope
Magnification Adjustment
The SMRS II features a 1-6.5x variable magnification range. The integrated Throwhammer Throw Lever allows for rapid and precise changes in magnification. Simply grasp the lever and rotate the magnification ring to your desired power setting.
- Low Power (1x): Ideal for close-quarters engagements and rapid target acquisition, offering a wide field of view (107 feet at 100 yards).
- High Power (6.5x): Suitable for engaging targets at longer distances, providing increased detail and precision.
Windage and Elevation Adjustments
The riflescope is equipped with exposed turrets for windage (horizontal adjustment) and elevation (vertical adjustment). These turrets allow for precise adjustments to zero your rifle and compensate for bullet drop and wind drift.
- Elevation Turret: Located on top of the riflescope. Rotate to adjust the point of impact vertically.
- Windage Turret: Located on the right side of the riflescope. Rotate to adjust the point of impact horizontally.
- CQ BDC Reticle: The Close Quarters Ballistic Drop Compensation (CQ BDC) reticle provides holdover points for various distances, simplifying aiming without constant turret adjustments once zeroed. Refer to the specific reticle manual for detailed BDC usage.
Reticle Illumination
The CQ BDC reticle is illuminated for enhanced visibility in low-light conditions or against dark backgrounds. The illumination control is typically located on the left side of the riflescope. Rotate the dial to turn the illumination on/off and adjust its brightness level. Ensure a fresh battery is installed for proper function.
Maintenance
Lens Care
The SMRS II features Bushnell's exclusive EXO Barrier Protection, a molecularly bonded coating that repels water, oil, dust, and debris, and prevents scratches. While highly durable, proper lens care is still recommended.
- Cleaning: Use a soft, clean lens cloth or a lens pen to gently wipe away dust and smudges. For stubborn marks, use a small amount of lens cleaning fluid specifically designed for optics.
- Avoid Abrasives: Never use harsh chemicals, abrasive cloths, or paper towels, as these can damage the lens coatings.
General Cleaning and Storage
Keep the exterior of the riflescope clean by wiping it with a soft, damp cloth. Store the riflescope in a cool, dry place, preferably in its original packaging or a protective case, when not in use. Ensure all caps are in place to protect the lenses and turrets.
Fog-Proofing
The SMRS II is Argon Purged, meaning its optics are filled with Argon gas to prevent internal fogging regardless of ambient temperature. This feature requires no user maintenance.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your Bushnell Elite Tactical SMRS II, consider the following common troubleshooting steps:
- Blurry Image: Re-adjust the diopter setting for your eye. Ensure the objective and eyepiece lenses are clean.
- Reticle Not Illuminating: Check the battery. Replace with a fresh battery if necessary. Ensure the illumination dial is turned on and set to a visible brightness level.
- Point of Impact Shift: Verify that the riflescope is securely mounted and that all mounting screws are tightened to the manufacturer's specifications. Check for any loose components on the rifle itself.
- Turrets Not Adjusting: Ensure the turrets are not locked (if applicable to your specific model, though SMRS II features exposed turrets). If resistance is felt, do not force the adjustment; contact support.
